What? What's rooted in the same gameplay? How are you determining that? I listed Portal and Catherine as different games - how are they rooted in the same gameplay?

You haven't really supported your point. Your just saying old games had more variety without supporting how that's true. Even when you say there were "way more games being produced" and then go on to say "that's a fact" but you haven't provided any sources to support that argument. Personally, I think between 3 competitive consoles, each of their digital avenues on top of PCs and handhelds, gaming has never been more abundant and varied as it is now. I'm not saying that's a fact but you haven't said anything to the contrary.

This gen has plenty of variety, people just have to try the games.

LBP alone has more variety of gameplay than any game you can name prior to this gen.

I have LBP....that's one game...so what?..son..its no comparison tho...what about all the classic franchises that were RUINED this gen?..major devs are damn near SCARED to make something with original gameplay...and when they finally do...they patch it cause the dumb fans bytch n complain...like I said..this gen's fans are just as much to blame...there was more variety in games as well as gameplay...there are exceptions this gen but its NOT the norm...the reviewers aint shyt this gen either...and gamers barely wanna fukk with a game that scored lower than a 9.0..and there's was simply just MORE games than this gen...the greatest accomplishments this gen was the fighting games imo...gameplay aint really change from last gen either...nothing really groundbreaking or nothin... Gaming is too impersonal now...multiplayer is cool but its more online oriented than actually playing with a person next to u...also..there's TOO much focus on multiplayer...its like single player is starting to take a back seat .and once that happens fully Im giving up on gaming...this gen may not be the WORST..but it DAMN sure ain't the best..

I get what you're trying to say here, only thing is, variety wasn't the norm in previous gens either to the level that you're thinking it is. It really wasn't as significantly greater previously than now on that front. Main difference is that there was a bit more games in general then cuz games were cheaper to make back then, so it having more variable games was only based on status quo at best. You either are overlooking how many games did have very similar gameplay mechanics and level designs or forgotten as such. The most variable games in both art-style, design and gameplay weren't as widespread as you'd like to believe, guy. There's always a few games that set the standard for specific genres that many of other games copied and just put their own coat of paint on it. Such is life though, as it's like that in pretty much all things.

Your points about multi-player and gamers being at fault are valid to some extents though. At the same time, games that were SP when were were younger we also did wish that a lot more of them did actually have multiplayer as well, lol.

Breh, I agree with you about the multiplayer games. And as this gen has gone longer, I've found myself picking up and playing more 1 player games.

However, I feel like there are a lot of great campaigns that vary that have been released this gen. Hell, I have a lot of games in my backlog that I plan on playing exclusively for their campaigns that I'm looking forward to.

And I would say that they a pretty diverse.

Red Dead Redemption
Rayman Origins
Bioshock 2
Catherine
inFamous

I'm going through Batman Arhkam City (probably the GOAT superhero videogame, the ones from last gen usually were trash) and I'm not concerned about it's multiplayer one bit.

And there are plenty of games that I didn't name who had great campaigns this gen.

NG2
God of War 3
DMC4
Dead Space (I still need 2)
Uncharted series

And I'm an action junky, I don't even play RPG games and I can say that I've had and still have a lot of adventures to play through. And with the inception of trophies and achievements in the games, it adds a lot replay value to the campaigns alone.
