Alundra, Silent Hill, Clock Tower are games that can make you :mindblown: with their puzzles. Even Metal Gear Solid and the original RE is hard if you don't know what to do.

I wasn't saying there were no difficult games now, I'm saying games back in the day were more harder. You know how long it took dudes to beat Mike Tyson in Mike Tyson's punch out, lol.

Majority of the games on 8-bit era are endless. I was like on 100th stage on Battle City and the game still goes on. I have to agree with you though. It took me a while to finish the Castlevania on NES before I can finish it. Dracula was cheap as fukk.

32 bit era sucked.. Start of FMV age. poor controls. Arcade ports that were ruined by the PS1's (X-men vs street fighter etc.) lack of memory.

I remember a total of four games from that era fondly-- Xenogears, Suikoden 2, Resident 1/2, Tobal 2

16 bit era-- Megaman x, Zelda Lttp, Super mario world, Sonic 2, Mortal Kombat 2, Street fighter 2, chrono trigger.. What else was really worth mentioning? honestly? Maybe Shinning Force 2 and castlevania X on the Turbo GFX 16 (something that I was lucky enough to have played when it was released in Japan)

Compare that to the windows 3.11/windows 95 era-- Doom, Doom2, mechwarrior 2, SystemShock, Hexen, Dark Forces, Warcraft, Diablo, Dune 2, Indian Jones 2, Sam and Max, Tie Fighter, X-wing, X-wing vs tie fighter, Heavy Gear, MDK, Total annihilation, Battlezone, quake, Falcon 3.0, Wingcommander 2, Descent 2..etc ... Games were just straight-up better then. No hand holding. Extreme difficulty and depth, and no Consoletardness.

the PS2 era just didn't capture me like previous gens did. I think the only games I liked were GTA3, Suikoden 3, Soul caliber and that's about it. It was too Japanese dominant, which gave us crap like Xenosaga and other Garbage FMV heavy and hyper effeminate Japanese games. I may have missed out on gems like KOTOR because I basically was disillusioned in this era and gave up gaming.

360 era had: COD 4, MW2, BLOPS, Half life 2, Portal, Mass Effect 1-3, Fallout 3, Oblivion, Skyrim, FO:NV, Halo 3, castle crashers, Minecraft, Farcry 3, N+, Trials HD, gears of war, bioshock 1, Borderlands 1-2, Dead space, and many more plus online multiplayer versions of all the classic games. It's a superior generation in all respects.

32-bit era you didn't even mention "Symphony of the Night", "Tomb Raider", "Final Fantasy 7". Or slept on classics like "Legend of Oasis".

And Saturn had arcade perfect ports of the Capcom brawlers.

I could do the same for your 16-bit list, but 100x worse. No "Battletoads"? No "Super Metroid"? No "Yoshi's Island"? No "Final Fantasy 3"? No "Actraiser"? None of the "Star Wars" games?

I mean, these are no brainer games. If I sat here and really picked my brain things would get worse for your argument.

The fact that these games ain't even on your mind speaks volumes about you as a gamer. That's like saying you're a fan of NY rap from way back but you don't know who Nas or Jay-Z is.

And the "360 era" you mentioned 9 FPS. That sums up that era perfectly.

That's my point. It seems the programmers back in the day really F*cked with us. A lot of games had mad levels or they were really hard to beat. It's crazy looking back. It was like the stuff of Legend to beat some of the games back in the day. You would brag to your friends at school, lol. But I don't want to 100% sh!t on this era. Being that I lived all the era's it's cool to see Graphics go so far to the point that the game feels really real. Soon we will be at virtual reality gaming where you are literally inside the game. But there was some complexity in the simplicity of the 8 bit/16bit era.

You already exposed yourself as NOT a real gamer bruh.
And PC gamers back then fit the nerdy stereotype we make fun of today
I know PC gamers of today don't have to be into pocket protectors, but back then? :mjpls:
I had a nerdy friend who had an Amiga and I remember playing Dragons Lair and some basketball game that was advanced for the time.. but shytty overall
Sorry bruh, couldn't do it... Later on tho.. Quake III Arena :ohlawd: I played on Dreamcast with a mouse in my right hand and the DC controller in my left

Yeah, I have all the LoLo games on my Wii right now. Not sure if VC offered them or if I got them off wiiso.com. You can request games and ppl will find them and inject them into "wads" so you can then put the game on the wii console :lawd:

Now since you talking about old skook baseball... which did you prefer?

Bases Loaded or RBI Baseball?

Bases Loaded 1 better than any other bases loaded, but RBI 3 is a fukking incredible game. SO. Personal preference is probably Bases Loaded(2 was garbage and I always forget they made a 3), but RBI 3 is a better game.

NES/SNES/GENESIS = GOAT ERA OF GAMING. Games were way better back in the day. They challenged your mental more. They were harder. Games today have all the flashy graphics but have ZERO substance and are way easier. Like a NES game like "Metal Gear" was very hard to play or "Battle Toads". I enjoyed games more back in the day. 85-94 was the greatest era for Games. Like I said, back in the day I could be on games all day and all night. Today, I only play awhile and then have to do something else. It's just not the same. I know I'm older and again yes the Graphics are crazy now but that doesn't mean the games are better. Like I said, you acutally had to use your MIND more back in the day. I'm happy to say I was apart of the Atari/NES generation meaning the 1st home system generation. Kids today just don't know what they missed. Everything today is cause my Generation, we are the foundation of Home Gaming. Show respect.

That's because kids today have been raised to think everything that glitters is golden, regardless of what Kid Cudi says. :heh:

It's not about how hard the games are now, it's about how easy and quick you can exploit them to their fullest capability. Back then we had codes, nowadays kids know to get killstreaks by using a knife. Everything is set up to allow kids to dominate the games rather than overcoming the difficulty of beating them.

I'm not the biggest Contra fan, but that was a great mix of difficulty and entertainment. Even having the codes didn't make the game a cakewalk. Same with Streets Of Rage 2 or Super Metroid. Hell, even Resident Evil 1 in the 32 bith with saves was not a cakewalk. Now, if a kid can't beat a game RIGHT away, he hates it and his friends hate it. And the game flops. Or if the kid can't get on multiplayer and put up 32/6 K/D within the first few days, then the game "sucks" and not worth the time anymore. I mean, just look how they ruined Mortal Kombat, Mario (I wouldn't touch a damn one of those Mario games on the Wii), and Sonic.

Not saying that there aren't still good games out there, it's just crazy how badly gameplay got substituted for playability.

I'll agree w/ this, the run in the early 90's was :ohlawd: My favorite run of this time for 16bit games was actually TurboGrafx 16. Still the sleeper of the home systems.

The other side of that coin was the fact that arcades were eating too, it was a perfect time of everything going on.

I think we had an amazing stretch from the 16-bit to the DC/PS2/XBOX/GC era. I hate to have to pick any of them, but I will probably give the 16-Bit era the edge over the other 2 because thats when you had Sega and Nintendo going AT IT...that shyt was INTSENSE. The 32-Bit era with the Saturn/PSone and the N64 was also a great period for growth and should not be overlooked. The PS2/XBOX/GC era was important because thats when Online play started to finally become a factor on consoles.

I think what is hurting consoles these days is the lack of focus. They are essentially becoming PC's instead of differentiating themselves and focusing on why certain games shined on those platforms. @hexagram23 was right, Zeon mentioned so many FPS's...and this generation has been FLOODED with them. Too much of the same shyt is TERRIBLE. This generation has suffered because of the costs associated with creating games these days...there are not many risks being taken because of the high costs of creating a AAA game.

Like Crysis 3 yeah the game looks incredible, but at the end of the day it feels like its mostly a nice looking demo to show off your graphics card. It really didn't need a sequel IMO. SimCity looks to be a complete disappointment as well so thats another knock on a franchise that could have potentially brought back another genre in gaming.

Thread is bringing me back :ohlawd:

Fired up some SNES games last night, and not to pile on but no one has mentioned

Earthbound
E.V.O.
Killer Instinct
Magical Quest
Donkey Kong Country
Joe and Mac
Pilotwings
Ninja Gaiden Trilogy
Star Fox
Zombies Ate my Neighbors (on Genesis too)

I think us :flabbynsick: 8 and 16 bit gamers win this war easily. Too many classics.

The war between Genesis and Super Nintendo was how everything got to where it is today. People were GOING nuts for Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat, NBA Jam, and Street Fight II Championship Edition. Nyggas were making bets and staying up at parties all fukking fight going to war over that shyt:laugh:

Mortal Kombat at the GORE and BLOOD on Genesis and Super Nintendo had that PG type shyt. No blood...we used to clown the Super Nintendo nyggas about that all the time.

Battletoads used to drive me fukking nuts..I think I rented that damn game from Blockbuster like 4x. I was obsessed:laugh:

Fred.

i remember the SNES star wars trilogy, and the super metriod. super metriod is the best game of the 16-bit era.

The 16-bit era had way more side-scrollers than 360's era of FPS. Most of the side scrollers were pure shyt, and you know that is true.

Honestly, Tie fighter is probably the best stars wars game in existence (i never played kotor though), and i saw no reason to play an inferior console star wars game back then.

As far as Nas and Jay-z, i never listened to them besides Illmatic, they were too mainstream for my tastes back then.
