Bond's gun spoke once....
But you know, we can't all be O.G's
my shyt got robbed in college
But you know, we can't all be O.G's
im not judging the era by popularity, but by the genre reaching a peak of creative gameplay and artistry. before 32 bit, the shmups were pretty straightforward, after 32 bit the shmups are pretty derivative, but at 32 bit, they were either doing something new(radiant silvergun) or perfecting something old (battle garegga)No internet, less channels for cable if people even had cable. Less room for ads on TV means more competition. Now a days there are so many channels that game companies can target certain stations like Cartoon Network/etc instead of wasting there time advertising somewhere else.
As for the Schumps and Saturn era. Knowing a person who had a Saturn is like knowing an american indian. Not very likely, so that couldn't of been the Golden era
And the Sega Genesis in particular had tons of schumps. Thunder Force was the shyt
And while trying to name some more, I end up with more NES shooters like Section-Z and Legendary Wings
But Genesis had Battle Squadron (so did SNES)
Darius 2
And now I'm remembering the TG-16 shumps that was the shyt like
SuperStar Soilder, A better version of R-Type
That one flying game where you'd go in the hot air ballons to buy equipment
Somebody please help me remember the name of this game.. you flew a ship, and your head would stick out the top, hair would move in the wind.. wtf
Then there was Gates of thunder, Aero Blasters, Dragon Spirit
Then they tried to go hard with this Rare Turbo Express (Portable Turbo Grafx 16) w/TV Tuner in HQ - YouTube
but now I'm just all over the place...
Oh I'm sure even more games would fit into that category. Or I could take it a step further. Basically Sega had shumps on lock. I liked R-Type better than everything after Life Force NES... but I know they didn't stop cranking them out after the 16bit era.. but what about the Dreamcast? It had Ikuragaim not judging the era by popularity, but by the genre reaching a peak of creative gameplay and artistry. before 32 bit, the shmups were pretty straightforward, after 32 bit the shmups are pretty derivative, but at 32 bit, they were either doing something new(radiant silvergun) or perfecting something old (battle garegga)
saturn was definitely weak in america, but wer'e talking about a primarily japanese genre. i dont even remember my friends playing a lot of 16 bit shmups either.
Your credibility took a nosedive right here.
Fred.
32 bit era sucked.. Start of FMV age. poor controls. Arcade ports that were ruined by the PS1's (X-men vs street fighter etc.) lack of memory.
I remember a total of four games from that era fondly-- Xenogears, Suikoden 2, Resident 1/2, Tobal 2
16 bit era-- Megaman x, Zelda Lttp, Super mario world, Sonic 2, Mortal Kombat 2, Street fighter 2, chrono trigger.. What else was really worth mentioning? honestly? Maybe Shinning Force 2 and castlevania X on the Turbo GFX 16 (something that I was lucky enough to have played when it was released in Japan)
Compare that to the windows 3.11/windows 95 era-- Doom, Doom2, mechwarrior 2, SystemShock, Hexen, Dark Forces, Warcraft, Diablo, Dune 2, Indian Jones 2, Sam and Max, Tie Fighter, X-wing, X-wing vs tie fighter, Heavy Gear, MDK, Total annihilation, Battlezone, quake, Falcon 3.0, Wingcommander 2, Descent 2..etc ... Games were just straight-up better then. No hand holding. Extreme difficulty and depth, and no Consoletardness.
the PS2 era just didn't capture me like previous gens did. I think the only games I liked were GTA3, Suikoden 3, Soul caliber and that's about it. It was too Japanese dominant, which gave us crap like Xenosaga and other Garbage FMV heavy and hyper effeminate Japanese games. I may have missed out on gems like KOTOR because I basically was disillusioned in this era and gave up gaming.
360 era had: COD 4, MW2, BLOPS, Half life 2, Portal, Mass Effect 1-3, Fallout 3, Oblivion, Skyrim, FO:NV, Halo 3, castle crashers, Minecraft, Farcry 3, N+, Trials HD, gears of war, bioshock 1, Borderlands 1-2, Dead space, and many more plus online multiplayer versions of all the classic games. It's a superior generation in all respects.
How old are you kind sir, this may be why you are so uninformed on the 16bit era. Saying there was only 7 worthy games from that era is something a troll couldn't even say and be believed. Now Like I said, we'd be here all day
But how you gonna not name...
Actraiser
Super Turrican
Super everything metroid to whatever.. how about Super Star Wars
Madden/NBA Live.. all EA Sports games made there name back then on Genesis
China Warrior on TG16.. Splatter House on TG or Genesis
Super Ghouls n Ghost... Phantasy Star RPG's, Streets of Rage series, Neo Geo games were all shytty to you? I can keep going but I'll stop.
Your just flat out wrong tho, its not even an opinion, its fact your wrong or just misinformed. However you wanna word it...
I did forget to mention Super Metriod --that's probably the best game of that era in all honesty.
Everything else you mentioned is simply not worth talking about-- either at par or below par in terms of quality.
That was the day of Game rentals and reviews that were only available in magazines. I played so many shyt games during that era (heavy nova, Eternal Warriors, the 7up guy games, clay fighters, sewer shark, lemmings, etc..) There was certainly a lot more shyt games back then.
To somebody who wasn't a real gamer
So you didn't like sports games.. but you bought Sewer Shark
Eternal Warriors was alright, Clayfighter and clayfighter 2 were great games. Turtles Tournament Fighter was good to for the time. But the bolded part is such blasphemy that I'm gonna leave this thread and count to 100 mississippi
Oh I'm sure even more games would fit into that category. Or I could take it a step further. Basically Sega had shumps on lock. I liked R-Type better than everything after Life Force NES... but I know they didn't stop cranking them out after the 16bit era.. but what about the Dreamcast? It had Ikuraga
And since myself and most ppl didn't get to play those Saturn classics, its why that era could not be considered the "Golden Age/era" for the majority of gamers
Now do you remember the name of that shump on TG-16 which had... nevermind, figured it out

And special shout out to Pac-Land
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AX4z7iuFfNU (forgot all about this game)
someone else played adventures of lolo??
that shyt was too hard for me as a lil kid though.
You already exposed yourself as NOT a real gamer bruh.Real gamers didn't play consoles in the early 90's at least exclusively.
Real Gamers know about boot discs and the 640K ram limit on DOS applications.
Yeah, I have all the LoLo games on my Wii right now. Not sure if VC offered them or if I got them off wiiso.com. You can request games and ppl will find them and inject them into "wads" so you can then put the game on the wii consoleLolo was my shyt. Until floor 8 or some bullshyt. Man fukk that.
I agree though 16-bit is the greatest gaming era we had. I had my SNES until 3 years ago, and I only got rid of that horribly discolred machine cause I got on of those 3 in 1 machines for NES, SNES, and Genesis where i can relive the GOATS.
Super Baseball Simulator 1000 is still bad ass, and I wish they made a sequel to it to this day.
fukk. I miss fun baseball games. I still play MVP 2005 and ignore shyt from this generation.
NES/SNES/GENESIS = GOAT ERA OF GAMING. Games were way better back in the day. They challenged your mental more. They were harder. Games today have all the flashy graphics but have ZERO substance and are way easier. Like a NES game like "Metal Gear" was very hard to play or "Battle Toads". I enjoyed games more back in the day. 85-94 was the greatest era for Games. Like I said, back in the day I could be on games all day and all night. Today, I only play awhile and then have to do something else. It's just not the same. I know I'm older and again yes the Graphics are crazy now but that doesn't mean the games are better. Like I said, you acutally had to use your MIND more back in the day. I'm happy to say I was apart of the Atari/NES generation meaning the 1st home system generation. Kids today just don't know what they missed. Everything today is cause my Generation, we are the foundation of Home Gaming. Show respect.
