I'm still in love with 8bit. But 16-bit was a perfect complement/upgrade to the 8bit era
32bit introduced shytty 3D graphics and really brought us into a new way of gaming.
And while some of the new stuff is cool, the problem that people didn't really think about is how many genres died with 16bit

SHUMPS became scarce

Side Scrolling Brawlers became extinct

A game like Adventures of LoLo wouldn't of been practical in 3D

The Deadly Towers had a charm about it that couldn't be done on newer systems because there would be too much extra bull'ish involved

RPG's turned from what they were to long winded cut-scenes of homo looking hero's (I hated FF10)

God of War is a game that some ppl like. But Legendary Axe was my God of War. And if they made Legendary Axe today? It would be this long story, it wouldn't play anything like the old school version. It would be this 3D environment that most likely would fukkin suck. It would be some guys "interpretation" of what he envisions for the game. Just like they did to Rygar :to:

20 years ago if someone gave you an Xbox 360 with all it's games you would throw 16 bit in the bushes real quick.

i think the 16 bit graphics was close to art for the style compared to the direction we're at and going. chrono trigger's music and screenshots should be in an art gallery

Altered Beast YO!!!!
Shinobi!

After Jet? What's that plane game again where the whole seat moved?

They worked harder on gameplay then and now hard on gameplay and graphics.

But graphics is important too
I'm real happy with the first and 2nd Ninja Gaiden, the Gears of Wars, Call of Duties, Left for Dead 1 and... I forget the other name!

honestly, and im 30 years old now....ive been playing games since the atari 800 came out.

only a few "ages" in gaming stand out to me.

8 bit era: it was so different than the atari age. in fact it was a huge difference. i don't think people realize what a jump that was.

91- 95 PC... so much innovation, and most games were totally immersive. Mechwarrior 2, doom, starcraft, warcraft, tie fighter, unreal, most star wars games, etc...

360--ps3... xbox live, fallout and skyrim, COD, half life 2, this gen was one of the best ever honestly. multiplayer really hit mainstream, and i feel that is a good thing.

16 bit had its gems but most games were bad quality.

32 bit era downright sucked in my opinion. Most games have aged poorly.

Ps2 era-- i never could really get into the games.

No I wouldn't. Sequels were everywhere during the 16bit era.
Todays game doesn't make me not wanna play Ghouls n Ghost Genesis today. Cuz I would play that.
Capcom Arcade Cabinet just came out, bunch of old skool games.

Ikari Warriors. That shyt was soooo fun. Couldnt be made today because the 3D would make it a completely different experience.
I could go on, but I wont...

16bit had its gems, but mostly bad quality :wtf:
Super mario World
Sonic 1/2/3
Super Metroid
Super Turrican
SFII
Pilot Wings
Bonk's Adventure
Hudson's Aventure Island

I'd be here all day, so what your saying is SNES and Genesis was not a polished era :wtf:
Oh, and I guess I have to add in Neo-Geo and Turbo Graphic-16

All the games from those 4 systems, and most weren't polished you say? :rudy:

Plenty of games TODAY are just slight upgrades from then. Especially figting games. But I'll let you tell it :manny:

I grew up and loved the 16 bit era...but I don't agree that it was the golden age.

Now when it comes to the transition from 2D to 3D killing genres, you're absolutely on point.

8 bit was the golden era. developers were far more limited on graphics so games centered around gameplay, so on average there was a higher level of gameplay across the board.

16 bit era was ill too, i definitely agree that the artistry really excelled during that time. Fighting Games, Racing games and RPGs really took incredible strides in the 16 bit era. and yeah, PCs were definitely far ahead of consoles at that time.

did any of yall play Secret Of Mana on SNES? that was one of my all time favorites but nobody i talk to ever played it.

i agree that alot of 32 bit games have aged pretty bad, but that was really a transition period that we needed in order for the PS2 to come through. alot of N64 games aged really well though

People have different opinions when it comes to golden age. They are split between 16-32 bit.

This is going to be the greatest gen ever with development costs down because of the streamline approach console devs are taking to programming games and with PS4 being the most powerful system on the market its going to be a REAL great gen for people who purchase the ps4.

:dead: at 16bit games being mostly bad quality, :comeon: Back in those games you could beat a game multiple times and not get bored. I've said this before and I'll say it again there are only like 2 or 3 games since 99 that I bothered playing through again 1st Metal Gear Solid, Gears of War, and Batman AA. 3D is mostly story driven than actual gameplay and fun, even when the games are :gladbron: :mindblown: funny who wants to spend 20hrs playing it again :notimeforthat: especially when some games won't allow you to skip cutscenes even if you already seen them.
I'd take a Legend of Zelda Link to the Past over any of those overrated N64,Gamecube,and Wii Zeldas, Super Metroid over and Prime game, Street Fighter 2 over SF4, Megaman X over this :flabbynsick: games Capcom has been putting out in recent years.
