Let’s just end this debate right now, Kobe Bryant dominated Tim Duncan’s teams in the playoffs. Like, consistently, every single time.

Stans really trying to rewrite history and say that the 3peat Lakers weren't Shaqs team? :gucci:
Shaq was unusable during crunch time and not everyone thrives in crunch time. Kobe did. Shaq was a good passer but not to the extent of a Jokic where you can run plays thru him consistently in the post. You could run plays thru Kobe and have him create for hisself and others. They both needed each other.

People mistake one being more dominant as meaning that he carried everyone else. Kareem was considered unstoppable but no one said it wasn’t Magics team or that Kareem carried Magic because of that. That’s a narrative that only came up when Kobe came around to diminish his contributions

:pachaha:Conveniently left out when Duncan swept Kobe and Shaq in 99'. Op post isnt serious.
:russ: What do you expect? There isnt going to be any fair and objective discussion, just agenda and narratives. Shaq was the main and primary reason those laker teams won 3 championships, he was the most dominant player and force in the league. Tim duncan has more accolades, a higher peak in the sport, to me its not remotely close, duncan is the better player.

Threads like this are so dumb. This isn't a 1 on 1 sport. Kobe and Duncan never guarded each other. When Duncan won he had better teams. When Kobe won his teams were better. If the Lakers had faced the Spurs in 05, 06 and 07? Who would have won? Dumbass thread.
Kobe had a better team in '03 and Duncan still won.

That's a lie.

Spurs won 60 games and Lakers barely won 50 games.

The Lakers supporting cast were old and worn out from going to the finals in 3 straight years. Kobe played with an injured knee and shoulder that both needed surgery. If it was any other player they would have missed the series vs the Spurs.

just off reality and eye test kobe is a better player

shaq and kobe dont matter.... they were both pieces of shyt who destroyed teams together... it wasnt even fair that they played in tandem :yeshrug: you can say one carried the other but who cares

them beefing was the point of them both being great and wanting the ball ... all yall fair-weather fans are dumb once again, like most arguments

duncan is amazing but spurs were a team... we never even got to see duncan at his highest level due to how the game was played over there

Honestly, if I’m building a team today I’m picking Kobe over TD.

Kobe brought a lot more utility than people realize. Dude at least would be able to match up 1-4 out there. Everything Jaylen Brown can do, Kobe would be able to and he was Finals MVP.

No doubt Duncan was a great team player and his game worked for that time, but individually, Kobe’s game and attributes much closer resembles today’s basketball.
