Nintendo made the right call to give us a different version of SMB2. It brought way more to the series (everything you mentioned in the OP), plus, it was a way fairer game than the Lost Levels.

I still like the Lost Levels because I grew up with it (on All-Stars).
Speaking of Mario games that don't get enough love, we need to put more respect on Super Mario Land 2's name.

This game blessed us with Wario, plus Mario went to space for the first time. Game was on the easy side, but it was still great. Nintendo should re-make it.
I think a “most underrated mario games” thread should be made by someone lol. This game would be top 3.

And this type of dork ass knitpicking is why nobody fukks with you nerds and everyone clowns gaming culture.

When I played smb2 with friends or my sister as a kid, we were together trying to beat the game...we'd take turns based on the characters and it was a joint effort. We weren't on the same screen though so I guess I was playing a bootleg version (fukkin idiots)

Mario 1, 3, world, etc are just Mario single player games with a pallate swap for luigi at best...this game had separate characters with attributes so it made player 2 feel like a separate participant in the adventure.
nikka that's not co op, that's just passing the controller :mjlol:

When SMB2 dropped it was the biggest thing in the world (in elementary school Lmao) we were all waiting for it and it blew our minds. The only reason why the narrative changed on it I believe is because SMB3 came through and crushed the buildings.

The view of SMB2 has changed over time because many of the people who didn't grow up playing it are controlling the narrative that it's not a "real Mario game". Back in the day, no one cared about that at all (if you even knew about Doki Doki Panic), it was crazy popular and only was eclipsed by SMB3. These new fans on Twitch and YouTube create this new narrative about retro games that were not how it was back in the day. For example, everyone says "SNES (Sness)" now, but back then, I never heard anyone say it like that, it was "S-N-E-S" and "N-E-S" (not Ness). Speed runners also don't like SMB2 because the physics are different that 1, Lost Levels/2J, and 3, and that plays a part in perception.
