Am I running wrong?
Breh I don't believe u, especially weighing that much...stop w/ theI'm 6'5" and years ago when I was about 250-260 (have a very large frame) I ran a mile in the 5:30s, ran two miles for my PT test in 13:08, and ran a 5K somewhere between 20-21 mins. Now that I'm out of the military and in my 30s, and about 315 lbs , the other day I ran 4 miles at an 11:24 pace per mile. So ashamed...

Always gotta be one...
If your friend ran on the college level and his best mile was 4:45, he must have been a walk-on at a very small school, or one of the slower runners on a D3 program. Maybe some of us big guys are actually fast, ever thought about that? I used to outrun skinny guys all the time when I was in good shape. Like I said, I have an extremely large frame. At 250, most people thought I weighed about 30-40 lbs less, I also had abs until I got up north of 260 something. I was in the Army for a long time, and before that I played football at what was then a 1AA school. Once again, this was me in the best shape of my life, even better than when I was still playing football. Those times I gave you are probably damn near the ceiling for someone built like me. They were PRs for me. I was actually an example that was commonly used to get some of those slow skinny guys to work on their run. A lot of the NCOs would say stuff like "You mean to tell me that PFC/SPC Nasty_Nate big ass can run in the 13s, but y'all are struggling to get under 15 or 16 minutes?!" Though I did have friend that was like 6'3" and about 230 who could run in the 11s. Backwoods ass dude from a small town in Bama. Dude used to run barefoot after work for fun.
I'm no expert or anything, but here are some things I used to do before I got fat, lol.breh not to derail the thread. I need some cardio advice.
I wanna get into cardio again. I'm int he gym about 4 times a week and I'm ok with the gains but feel mad tired all the time and out of energy. I'm pretty sure it's because my edurance is so low.
I used to run a 6 min mile at the fastest, and while I enjoy running, I hate doing it cause I suck at it. These days I can barely hit two laps on the track at a decent pace before I'm wanting to quit and burning out.
How do I get my Cardio back up? (Obviously run more) but I mean is there a program to follow? Like do i just start running 5 times a week at a slow pace until I hit 2 miles each time and just over the weeks/months pick up the pace?
Or would it be better to focus on fast paced jogging for say 400m multiple times and focusing on reducing the rest between each 400 over time or adding 100m every week until I hit a continuous mile at fast pace?
Thank you so much bro.I'm no expert or anything, but here are some things I used to do before I got fat, lol.
Build your base up so that you can run at least four laps without stopping. That shouldn't take too long if you run at least three days a week. Once you can do that, you may want to do intervals of some kind. For example, you can run hard for 30 seconds, than walk/jog for 60 seconds. Just do it for at least 30 minutes, and make sure you jog or do elliptical for about 10 minutes before in order to warm up. Once 30 seconds of running becomes too easy, up it to 60. Just make sure that your rest period is twice as long as your intense running period.
Another thing I used to do is go to a 400 meter track and after warming up with a mile, I'd sprint the straight parts and jog the curves for at least 2 miles. I never did this, but a friend of mine who is still in good shape will go to a 400 meter track and after warming up he'll run one lap as fast as he can, then he'll jog the next one.
I used to do intervals twice a week, never two days in a row. I'd also do at least two other runs a week, with one of those two being a long and slow run. Hopefully this helps, and maybe somebody with more race experience or a track background can pick up on it and share their knowledge.
