But then you look at the other teams with no defense.

NO and NE. All lost when they had to play a top defense

The Pats were ranked 31 in total D and beat the Ravens who were top 5. And the Giants who won the SB were 27th in total defense and they beat the top 5 9ers. You would have never seen TWO teams ranked that low defensively in the SB 10, 15, 20 years ago.

Clearly you don't understand the difference between "being fazed out" and "eliminated". Defense is not allowed to have the impact it used to and it's trending further and further down in terms of impact. Of course you still gotta play D but you no longer need a top D to win.
what times youre comparing today to tho ? compared to 10 years ago, sure.

compared to last 5 years, while it is trending towards less impact, but its not that all that huge nh

the team with a top 5 best defense in the playoffs won last year. another team came within a dropped td catch and a shanked chip shot away from a sb.

there are more teams which won the SB in the last 10 years with a a good d and a crap offense than vice versa

even in the last 5 years you had quite a few top d performances dictating the winning team

steelers and packers won it all with top defenses, and giants always brought their a-game d's in the playoffs during the SB runs

saints were 2nd in the league in TOs forced during 2008 run.

you cant really find a completely shytty defense in the last 5 years that was on SB winning team. and in superbowl in general, even the pats last year were like top 5 in turnovers forced

without a dominant or opportunistic defense theres no chance for a team to win the big game, none. if teams cant defend the run, no amount of offense will do them any good.

the Packers went 15-1 last year with a shyt defense.

When you have a QB like Rodgers and weapons who can basically put the ball into the endzone any time he wants...it outweighs anything a defense can do.

That's the thing, you can win all the games you want with a trash defense in the regular season, but in the post season you have to face teams with good O and a good D.

Packers had a very fruity schedule if we don't recall, I dont think they played a top 5 defense all season.

Saints - bad D
Panthers - terrible D
Bears - good d, but not great
Broncos - good d, but were awful at this point in the year
Falcons - okay defense at best
Rams - terrible team
Vikings - terrible team
Chargers - terrible D
Vikings - terrible team
Bucs - bad team
Lions - good team, defense was swiss cheese though
Giants - good team, at this point D was still suspect
Raiders - decent team
Chiefs - bad team, which they lost to
bears- same as before, no Cutler though now
Lions - bad d, backups beat them

You see why their 15-1 wasn't that impressive and why they were able to cost with no D, once they played teams that did both well in the playoffs, they folded.

But that Giants playoff D was very different than their regular season numbers, I think we all agree on that.

And truth be told, both the Giants & Pats got to the SB on some super flukey shyt when they beat those top 5 defensive teams.

Oh really? So I guess if we didn't force those 5 turnovers we still would have won?

Get a clue.

oh really you guys know how to cause fumbles better than the rest of the league?

please. the fact people still cant grasp that fumble recoveries and forced fumbles are basically luck is ridiculous

Yeah well that hard hit by Whitner, total luck right?

You don't know what the fukk you're talking about.

And how you forget there was also 2 int's in that game. Those probably had nothing to do with us winning either.

GET A CLUE

The Niners didn't beat the Saints because of their defense.
oh so Drew Brees throwing 2 picks, one close to being a pick 6
Whitner knocking out pierre thomas at the 5 yard line forcing a fumble

yimmy being rattled by whitner,
Brees being under perhaps most pressure he's been all year,
bushrod having the worst game of the season against smith bros

was all NOT because of our D ? :what:

The idiot should stick to Jets football, he doesn't know shyt about any other games it seems.

How could someone watch that game and say "The 49ers defense didn't win them that game".
