Academia is significantly, if not outright, left leaning. If one doesn't already have these left leaning proclivities before entering higher education, there's a high probability that that person will acquire them due to it being so widespread in the academy.
A simple example could be; if there was a study showing that patriarchy is better for society than the leftist concept of sex egalitarianism, said study would be suppressed in the academic zeitgeist.
Nature (The International Weekly Journal of Science) is one of the world's most prominent science magazines, and is influential in the academic world. They outright assert that scientific research should be in-line with politically liberal norms if it is going to be published and exposed to the public.
According to Nature, "There is a fine balance between academic freedom and the protection of the dignity and rights of individuals and human groups."
"Sexist, misogynistic and/or anti-LBGTQ+ content is ethically objectionable. Regardless of content type (research, review or opinion) and, for research, regardless of whether a research project was reviewed and approved by appropriate ethics specialists, editors may raise with the author concerns regarding potentially sexist, misogynistic, and/or anti-LBGTQ+ assumptions, implications or speech in their submission..."
