:mindblown: Where are you getting this, libertarians dont want there to be any punishment from. If they were found guilty and given life, i'd be cool with it.
Regulations are not punishment to the guilty. They are punishment to everyone.

I'd want those responsible, to pay. Money and time.... or be shot in the street depending on who it was they poisoned. I wouldnt want regulations placed on other factories who had nothing to do with the spill :what:
The regulations dont hurt those responsible in any way, they are out of business. They do not impact this specific case in any way what so ever. Its just some more feel good legislation that can insure votes.
i wanted to read the next few pages but this finally got to me.
Regulations are not PUNISHMENT they are a cost of doing business. They are no more a punishment than payroll. I'm not saying all regulations are effective or even needed, but they are the rules of the game. You sound like you don't want any rules in place.

Regulations are there to prevent future mistakes from taking place and place the responsability of preventing those mistakes back on the company and ensure the company doesn't get lax in that responsibility.

You constantly say, "big corp makes the regulations so they're corrupt"...or something to that affect. Assuming these new regulations are based more on protecting the environment from irresponsible companies are you ok with that?

Basically do you care more about protecting the environment or a company?

Regulations are not PUNISHMENT they are a cost of doing business.
Obviously you dont see increasing the cost of doing business in response to misconduct as a punishment, and that fine. The real issue her eis how does that hurt or reprimand the guilty corp that is out of business?

it doesnt, it add cost to doing business to those who have dont nothing wrong.

If you were trying to have the owners of the factory that spilled flogged or something I'd be with you, it isnt about ignoring whats been done, as some have thoughtlessly suggested, its about going after the guilty party and them alone.

Why does it have to hurt or reprimand the guilty corp? Their punishment is a separate issue from trying to prevent further incidents. And adding costs to business is fine, if those costs are reasonable and help lower the risk of further incidents that might destroy those companies altogether, as this one was.

What they did is already against the law/regulations, and already leads to ruin(as they are demonstrating), more legislation isnt needed. Its a waste of tax payer money... which may be where I am separating from you guys on this issue... you guys dont seem to mind using tax payer money to make redundant laws/regulations.

More over, this is how you end up with corps that are "too big" by increasing operation cost and drowning the little guys.

If anything we should be demanding harsher punishment, as a determent.

i cant believe people will make it seem like you have to choose between safe water and jobs. this country is becoming a crack house

regulation is not harming businesses, it is to make sure catastrophe is less likely to happen in the future. furthermore, the low execution of regulation in WV is causing job loss since "freedom industries" water company is going bankrupt due to the fact that it behaved in such a loose and reckless way that it created massive liability. regulation is like speed limits for some of these short sighted companies out here, it can keep them alive in spite of their natures

So a company spilled chemicals, and is now going out of business... and probably going to be sued to death.

Sounds about right.

Whats the issue exactly? :ld:
Are we seeking to punish(via regulation) other factories for this (now belly up) factories mistakes? :snoop:

The point is to prevent stuff like this from happening in the first place. We can talk about lawsuits and punishments all day, but if there were better regulations then there's a good chance something like this would've never come to pass.

Regulations themselves have nothing to do with "punishing" businesses, but with public safety.

They are out of business and going to pay out lots of money in damages. Thats justice enough. Adding more regulation doesnt hurt them(they are done), or compensate the victims. It just makes things harder for those factories that have done nothing wrong...

... and if it increases cost, it could mean lay offs and more unemployed Americans. :snoop:

But the democrats hearts are in the right place. :obama:
FALSE.

Thinking its cool to dump shyt like this is the problem and regulating it would PREVENT that.

We're not even talking about ADDING more regulations honestly but a few more rules wouldnt hurt to ensure what everyone has to enjoy.
