My only problem with this trade is why they didn't wait to see if there were better offers out there for KP? Why not test the trade market out there and listen to other offers on the table instead of pulling the trigger.. I know we could've run away with better pieces than Smith and DJ. :francis:

What better offers? It was either get cap space and young prospects, or get a star player in return. If you get a star player, you're changing course in the middle of the season and blowing up the tank, and not only that but the only star player on a trading block right now who's worth a 23-year old All-Star, future-MVP caliber player and can make a significant difference here and not on a shytty contract is Anthony Davis, who's made it known he'd only re-sign with LA.

Knicks with the cap this summer to sign 2 max deals + keep tank in place > any other possible offer on the market right now that'd be practical and realistic

That's why we need to respect Melo more, he came here when no one else wanted, he wanted to win in one of the harshest cities in the world because he knew he'd be immortalized here. Breh resigned for more than money, he wanted to win but he wanted to win here, he swung for the fences in terms of building a legacy and that took balls, he should be respected for it.

I hear you, and agree to an extent. Id agree completely if he didnt force the trade to the knicks in the first place and just waited to sign instead. That wouldve gone a long way to prove he was more winning > money. But i dont blame him. Id want max money in every scenario too. :yeshrug:

But yea he didnt do anything unseemly to the fans or the city. Hes got his faults but seems like a good dude and is an all time knick.

But Kp? Nah. Hes lucky hes latvian or he'd be viewed much differently with how he acts.

This was the best case scenario for a KP trade. Sure KP is worth a star in return, but that messes up the tank, and it's not like *insert star player name here* with the team the Knicks have right now would do shyt. We cleared cap for this summer to try and chase KD/Kyrie/Klay/Butler/Kawhi while maintaining the tank, and got DSJ too :yeshrug: No way to assess until after this offseason. There's so much possibilities, this kind of trade was the one of the best routes, probably 2nd only to not trading KP at all

Realistically the odds of moving Tim AND Lee were slim and none let alone both out in the same deal. Moving them was crucial to this summer and they used their biggest piece to get it done and now this allows us to maximize on our other assets. Ballsy as fukk. Hopefully it works.

Like Stephen A Smith said this guy hasn't played in a year and half and he's making demands :comeon: Breh last time you were on the court you were catching passes from Ramon fukking Sessions and you got balls to complain?

Remember earlier in the season when Fizdale said he hasn't seen him sprinting yet and Porzingis threw a fit, Fiz had to make a statement next day that he's running like a big boy :scusthov:

I've spent hours on the trade machine trying to figure out ways to move THJ or Lee, it was impossible. If, and only if, we land 2 of those star FAs this summer, it's a dub for sure and Steve Mills should get GM of the Year.

Exactly.

Not many teams around that can offer the salary dump we needed with matching contracts for our summer, a young piece AND future picks. The only way this gets better is if there was a pick for this year included.

This move allows us to maximize an asset thats reportedly ready to leave us next season with nothing by attaching our two most unmovable to him for the space we needed THIS season. future picks. The picks and young piece are icing on the cake for what it does in moving THJ and Lee.

Get star player and sure, maybe it brings another free agent. Maybe it doesn't. But you fukk with the tank in the process.

Our ceiling right now is 2 max FAs and a top 5 pick for the loss of Porzingi. Strategically this move is great. It just hurts my fukking heart.

Breh this trade is dumpster fire. You cannot make this a win, we traded a star player on a rookie contract for cap space and late first round picks in 3-7 years. I was upset when I first saw the trade and it only gets worse as the time passes, the more you cool down and think about it the more mind boggling it gets :mindblown:

First of all Mills was the one that gave THJR that contract, he gave him all that money when no one was offering anything close. Am I supposed to give Mills props now for being able to 'get rid of that contract' :heh: That's some Donald Trump level logic. Second they should've traded Courtney Lee last season when he was on fire and hitting threes, but I guess a rumored second round pick wasn't enough. Now it's amazing that he figured out a way to move that contract? Teams are out there moving Mozgov's contract with second round picks while we are throwing away a young star to clear cap space.

No its not. atlanta is getting their pick first regardless.
I thought it was top 5 protected. If the Mavs pick 4 they keep their pick. But why don’t we get it if we get the first available?

shyt maybe Wes but DJ is a legit starter in this league. We can't get a late first/Early second and some more expirings for him?
I think it's a problem cap wise. I'm sure Warriors and Rockets would scoop up both DJ and Wes Matthews instantly but will probably have to wait for a buyout.
