わたしのせんせいはにほんにいとくる

Sounds like I'll be seeing her in Japan before she comes back though.

I'm having a lot of fun learning Japanese.

A great resource for native learning is radio Garden. Radio stations all over the globe are searchable by country. Will help with speed and understanding.

I've got mandarin next...how'd you do it breh ? :wow:

I'm learning Japanese, but the same principles apply. Learn the sounds of the characters. Learn how to write the characters.

Next is grammar and sentence structure.

I started with a teacher this time around and I grasped onto the concepts quickly with homework that reinforced that.

A good textbook and a grammar textbook that explains the concepts more in depth helps me.

Because Japanese uses three writing systems simultaneously there aren't any shortcuts in skipping one and learning the others. I'm moving towards learning the kanji in context which will build my vocabulary and show how to use the characters.

With Chinese characters there are so many and some look similar so you will want to associate each character with a image or reference. For example, よ is pronounced yo. I associate this character with a hitchhiker trying to get a ride. Thumb out saying yo.

That should be a good starting point. Depending on what your textbook or teacher plans for you your learning after this point will differ from mine.

Anyone rocking with tutors on Italki?

I really retain more info with using and talking to another person. Plus it's a lot of fun being put into positions where you don't know what to say and have to figure it out.

Trying to get at least 3 hours of lessons a week.

それはよかったでよ。うらやましい。

どこにすんでいますか?

I was wondering why the kanji and hiragana expressed some of the same sentiments.

This will get you together. I took a course and have some books and courses, as well. But if you work through this, you'll have a decent start to speaking. Start at the A lessons, thru D lessons.

Let's Speak Series: Textbooks + Multimedia: Teaching + Learning Resources: National African Language Resource Center: Indiana University Bloomington

I have this text and audio. If you want a physical book, this is a great one. I have the audio, if anyone decides to purchase the book, I'd send those audio files.

I use it to practice speaking Japanese. Great for getting rid of the "delay" when first speaking in another language and as a kind of reward. Hearing yourself speaking a language you never would have dreamed you could is great.
