A Dwight trade would either give them their next superstar or it would allow them to start the rebuilding process at least a year earlier.
Kobe isn't likely to retire, he's also not tradeable. Makes more sense to get your money's worth by getting the most out of his talent than just giving up and rebuilding now.
The Cap situation isn't so bad that it'll hurt the team long term. It just hurts this current squad because they can't get quality role players. Blake and Barnes were actually considered good signing but they've under performed (though Barnes has had injury issues).
It's pretty obvious the Lakers want to rebuild on the fly and stay competitive. That's why the CP3 deal was so brilliant.
