His defense puts him ahead of Okafor, he's excellent in help defense and is already one of the best shotblockers in the league.

His long term projection is why he was drafted 4th to begin with, what he's doing now was unexpected, long term he's going to add some weight and he'll be strong enough to operate in the post. Right now he's playing almost exclusively as a cutter, jumpshooter and roll man to the rim, he has a post moves that he flashes from time to time but isn't strong enough yet to play in the post. A 7'3" PF that can defend, shoot the three and potentially post up....only KAT has similar qualities.

I agree but ill still take him 4th. Russell has shown the ability to take over games no other rookie has shown that type of potential, jah is just a stud i think porzingis will be a stud 2 tho

I like the pick because it's getting harder to build a team around low post scoring Cs who aren't rim protectors. If you have Okafor on your squad as the starting C, the big that fits best next to him is a shot blocking floor spacer...which is currently the rarest player in basketball. After Porzingis, Davis, Ibaka, there aren't hardly any of those dudes in the league period.

Just look at Milwaukee. They went from a great defense last year (1st in Defensive Efficiency) with rim protector/hard roller to the rack Zaza at C to a weak defense (LAST in D Efficiency) with Greg Monroe, who is not a rim protector or roller to the rack off the Pick and Roll.

These back to the basket scoring Cs who can't protect the rim (Enes Kanter, Monroe, probably Okafor) are going to get attacked all day in this era of small-ball. Can Oak defend out in space, a must in an era where constant switching is the norm? I could be wrong but I don't see it happening.

The league is outside-in now as opposed to inside-out like it was in the past. I'd much rather have a playmaking Guard who can shoot, pass, and rebound like Russell than an offensively skilled but plodding C like Okafor. Much easier to build around a perimeter guy than a low post guy.

Excellent Points. :salute:

Kristaps has shown the ability to take over games offensively and defensively -

Right now, of the top 5 draft picks KAT & Kristaps are the only ones with elite potential on both sides of the ball, they have shown that many times over now, whether it's scoring or shutting down the paint.

Nah they have shown to affect the game on both ends only d'angelo has shown he can put the team on his back big difference. I really like this draft think Hezonja went 2 high tho but porzingis will be good people say he needs 2 toughing up but he has tremendous heart, i love that about his game thought the knicks would regret passing on mudiay but i was wrong

Yep.

Devin Booker should've went top 5, tho.

If they could redo the draft today, I think it would go something like this

Towns
Porzingis
Okafor
Portis
Booker
I think we need to wait and see if Booker develops his handle before we say top 5

But that kid is definitely talented and a good defender too. He'll no doubt be a impact player in the future

I can kinda understand why the Magic took Hezonja at number 5

Your own article says he has defensive ability. Acting like a rookie center won't improve AT ALL on defense is laughable and not even worth arguing over.

no it doesn't. :what:

"Remember how the Sixers are 30th in Offensive Rating? Well, they're 23rd in Defensive Rating (107.3). That's still not good, but it's a number to keep in mind.

Why? Because when Noel and Okafor play together, the team's Defensive Rating is 113, the same number it is when Okafor plays without Noel. The worst Defensive Rating in the league belongs to the Milwaukee Bucks (109.6). They're 4 points per 100 possessions worse than the worst squad when the two play together.

Noel's individual Defensive Rating is 103, proving what we already knew: he isn't the defensive issue.

In fairness, though, Noel is allowing a field goal percentage of 51.4 percent at the rim on 7 attempts per game, a higher rate than Okafor's 49.4 percent on 7.9 attempts per game, per NBA.com.

Among 51 players who face at least 5 attempts per game and who have played at least 15 games, Noel ranks just 38th, and Okafor ranks 28th. Neither have been great, but Noel's 2.6 percent Steal Rate obliterates Okafor's 0.5 percent mark.

He also holds the edge in Block Rate: 3.4 percent to 2.9 percent."

That is the entire remarks about okafor's defense nowhere there does it suggest he has defensive ability, all it states is he has the edge on noel in block rate and FG percentage at the rim. that doesn't mean he has "defensive ability", that means he's doing better than noel in two aspects.

What it literally states is that when Okafor plays that the sixers have the worst defensive rating in the league, 3.5 points worse than the bucks. Don't try spinning this shyt to suit your narrative as there's nothing to suggest he's a good defender.

And maybe he can improve and maybe he won't, I don't think he's going to improve all that much and the best case scenario for him would be what Malta said:

His man to man defense in the post is actually pretty good, his problem right now is in rotation, he's not that far behind Karl Towns and Kristaps in regards to percentage at the rim.

KAT - 46.0%
Kristaps - 46.7%
Okafor - 48.0%

He can improve to the point that he wont be a liability on defense, he's taller than Jefferson and you can hide guys like him a bit better, he's not as slow as Enes Kanter either. I suspect he'll drop 15-20lbs in the offseason and come back next year a bit quicker laterally, also Jefferson was on a top 5 defensive squad.

Which is pretty much him not being a liability on the floor and providing proper help defense. You shouldn't have to HIDE your rim protector and in our case, because I know you want Okafor over Russell right now, the Lakers would be fukking doomed as we don't even have good perimeter defenders around him or a guy like Noel to help makeup for what he lacks on that end(which the Sixers are still having trouble with). We would have been god awful in the future with Okafor and there's no reason for you to want him on our squad.

And in the end, if Embiid comes back healthy the Sixers will likely look to move him as well since there's no way they're keeping him around to play center when Embiid can actually do it at both ends.

edit: I know you like Clarkson too, as do I, and him and Okafor would be letting up damn near 120 points a game on the floor together. A guy that doesn't stay in front of his guy with a guy that can't provide help to save him whatsoever. :francis:

Breh Porzingis is overrated as a three point shooter. He's a better mid range shooter than he is a three point shooter

Y'all be sounding crazy talking about dude on here. He's been playing well but his three point shooting could use some work

He's shooting 33% from three on the season and 38% from three in their wins, he obviously has a jumper. And let me get this straight breh, you @ me about D'Angelo Russell being a star, in here you're calling Kristaps an overrated shooter when he's actually shooting slightly better from three than Russell :russ:

Your PF doesn't need to shoot 45% from three, he's going to be around 37-40% in the future, which would be among the leaders for the position.

Actually, ask your Laker brethern, I was one of the few saying you couldn't pair Jahlil and Randle together long before the draft. You shouldn't have to hide someone, but the fact remains that a big man with poor defense can still be apart of a top defensive team. He's not on Kanter's level of awfulness and if he loses a couple of pounds I think he'll end up being an average to decent defender in the long term. I'm not banking on Joel :to: and neither should the Sixers.

I don't dislike D'angelo at all, I think he's going to be very good, the only thing I've ever said about him is I don't see him being a superstar.

Nobody raves about Russell's three point shooting like they do Porzingis' shooting. They rave about his passing

People have compared him to Nowitzki and he is known for his shooting ability from deep.

But since you bring up Russell, what's you think of that performance? :sas1:

If hezonja was starting and had a bigger role you would see why hes a top 5 pick. No glaring weaknesses in his game, solid all around player

Nah, they talk about his shooting and constantly bring up the name of Curry :mjpls:

He played great :yeshrug: nowhere have I ever said Russell would be a bum, I've compared him to Manu and think he'll be good, but he is slow and I don't see him being a superstar. Prime Manu was a damn good player :yeshrug:

okafor can't play any goddamn defense. not sure why no one realizes this except that they probably haven't actually seen him play much this season, which i can't really blame you for. guy gets worked in the paint constantly. he's not a bust, but he is the next al jefferson.

Okafor can't play any defense, and Russell can? Nikka stop!!!! :rudy:

Neither one can play defense, so lets look at their offensive production, or is that even necessary.....

that whole post was directed at regular P, I was just using your quote as a reference as you know your shyt when it comes to big men. I don't really disagree with anything you said, I'm just not high on Okafor's defensive potential. People think it's crazy to think a rookie can't make huge strides defensively, but I really haven't seen many players do it over the years for one reason or another. Some players have gone from horrible to average or done better in certain systems, but really not many I can recall that took the jump from poor to great. Of course, as you said, him slimming down should at least help him rotate better and provide better help defense, although it is an IQ thing as well for him.

I was big on Okafor before the draft and thought it would be silly to draft anyone but him; although I was aware and somewhat concerned about him and Randle on defense together and so far this season it has shown quite well that those two would not have worked whatsoever together, as you said. Not just defensively, but due to Randle's lack of ability to do anything but drive recklessly left right now on offense they would have been terrible offensively together as well.
