really? that's all it takes? okay name me one defensive coach that has fixed a terrible interior defender like okafor, i'll wait. i ask this every time and not a single person has named me a center that was completely on defense and managed to become good in his career. it doesn't happen. a

scott skiles is a good defensive coach and he hasn't made vucevic a better interior defender. hell, at the start of the season he just straight up benched him for being a bad defender at times.
Marc Gasol won DPOY in 2012-13. In 2013-14, his Defended Field Goal Percentage was 48.6%, including 60.9% at less than six feet.

Okafor's Defended Field Goal Percentage right now is 48.4%, including 54.3% at less than six feet.

This season, Gasol's DFG% is 43.7%, including 55.3% at less than six feet, which is still worse than Okafor's percentages.

In 2013-14, Cousins' DFG% was 46.7%, including 57% at less than six feet. This year, he's at 43.3% and 51.9% at less than six feet.

Do you need more examples? I'm listing Cousins and Gasol's numbers well past age 20 as well.

you just compared okafor to marc gasol and you're asking me if I need more examples. :laff:

you could have just said "nah i don't watch sixer games, but here's one stat that makes him look good". How about the sixers going from a top 10 defense to one of the league's worst defenses with the biggest change being the fact they got Okafor starting now?

Why don't you show me the sixers overlal defensive rating with okafor on and off the court as I remember it didn't look pretty. How about plenty more examples because it's common knowledge he's not a good defender and you're trying to use one statistic to make him look good. Like Cousins isn't even considered a good defense, yet those numbers would make him look good.

Too many clueless posters expecting a 19 year old player to put up all star numbers 30 games into his 1st NBA season :snoop:

He's been steadily improving since his first game and that's all you ask from him at this point.

@Gil Scott-Heroin what the fukk is wrong with these guys? You're maintaining that a rookie big man has no chance of improving on defense and I'm showing you how other big men have improved over the years. :why:

I like the pick because it's getting harder to build a team around low post scoring Cs who aren't rim protectors. If you have Okafor on your squad as the starting C, the big that fits best next to him is a shot blocking floor spacer...which is currently the rarest player in basketball. After Porzingis, Davis, Ibaka, there aren't hardly any of those dudes in the league period.

Just look at Milwaukee. They went from a great defense last year (1st in Defensive Efficiency) with rim protector/hard roller to the rack Zaza at C to a weak defense (LAST in D Efficiency) with Greg Monroe, who is not a rim protector or roller to the rack off the Pick and Roll.

These back to the basket scoring Cs who can't protect the rim (Enes Kanter, Monroe, probably Okafor) are going to get attacked all day in this era of small-ball. Can Oak defend out in space, a must in an era where constant switching is the norm? I could be wrong but I don't see it happening.

The league is outside-in now as opposed to inside-out like it was in the past. I'd much rather have a playmaking Guard who can shoot, pass, and rebound like Russell than an offensively skilled but plodding C like Okafor. Much easier to build around a perimeter guy than a low post guy.
They do have Nerlens Noel maybe he can develop a dependable jump shot later in his career. He's only like 21. :ld:

you listed marc gasol from his DPOY year and showed me he "improved" in one statistic of the game. if his defense actually got that much better from his DPOY he would win it every year. you also listed cosuins and one of the biggest knocks on him is his defense. if he was good defensively he would probably be easily one of the best big men in the game, but unfortunately he still struggles on that side of the floor.

poor defensive big men do not have a tendency to become great. you also said you'd give me more examples, but when i asked you go on to bytch. :martin:
