Okafor can't play any defense, and Russell can? Nikka stop!!!! :rudy:

Neither one can play defense, so lets look at their offensive production, or is that even necessary.....

Having your 5, who is usually meant to anchor your defense and provide help to the perimeter guys, be poor defensively is a lot worse than having your point guard be poor defensively. And since Russell has good size they could always switch him to the weaker offensive player, much like Curry, if Lakers ever get a weak defender again.

Someone like Ariza who we should have actually pursued. :mjcry:

Nah, they talk about his shooting and constantly bring up the name of Curry :mjpls:

He played great :yeshrug: nowhere have I ever said Russell would be a bum, I've compared him to Manu and think he'll be good, but he is slow and I don't see him being a superstar. Prime Manu was a damn good player :yeshrug:
I can respect that. But slow or not slow, his skillset is hard to come by and there's no reason to think that he can't be a superstar at the point guard position

He's shown flashes of being able to make big time clutch shots already. You can't teach that stuff :yeshrug:

Okafor's growth on defense will be dependent on the improvement of Philly. Which may be obvious on the surface, but if this team loiters around the lottery for the next few seasons, he probably won't ever break his bad habits on the defensive end. Far too early for a thread like this though.

I see where your coming from, but Okafor will always be able to get his shot of when he wants. He will eventually become a double double machine. You can't teach what he has, you either have it, or you don't. Plus, he can become a better defender. For his position, he is in the upper echelon of athleticism, so its more mental than physical. Russell will never be a good defender, because his physical tools will not allow him to stay in front of most NBA pgs. Honestly, he is even slow for a 2, and considering he isn't a great athlete, he's pretty undersized as well. He has the tools to be good offensively, but I'm not sure great, but time will tell, but barring injury, or stupidity, I think Okafor will have the better career. Funny how Elton Brand has come out of retirement and joined the sixers so he can watch his silly ass.....I wonder if K had anything to do with that?

Russell is not nearly as slow as yall try to make him. Hes just plays at a controlled pace but he has another gear. Might not be on the level of a mudiay or nothing but its there.

He plays at a controlled pace, because he is slow, he really doesn't have any other option. He is very smart, with a high basketball IQ, and very good ball skills. I believe he will eventually be a very solid player, but he will have to be very crafty, similar to a Paul Pierce, who wasn't blessed with extreme athleticism, but he had very good ball skills, a high IQ, and was very crafty. I'm not knocking Russell, I just don't think he will be better than Okafor, who is already basically un-guardable on the block one-on-one.

So who are all of these star guards in the NBA with "slow-mo" games?:jbhmm:

Today?:jbhmm:

20 years ago:jbhmm:
30 years ago:jbhmm:.................................................................................:jbhmm:

Y'all need to stop this it's just sad at this point. You're only gonna end up hurt. The kid is a rotational guard on a good team, and that is okay. Just not for the number 2 overall pick.

We've talked about this before. I just cannot see any comparison to Manu when Manu could get to the rim at will. Manu would've put up much better numbers if he played on a different team.
