I wonder if I would be able to blend in outta curiosity as a Black American.

Like would someone that looks like Will Smith but wears what they wear and keep his mouth shut be convincing enough to think he was a native :ohhh:

Loads of people have the Will Smith look but we would still know. Hell i could even spot a Ghanaian easy. It isn't even about skin color, we have plenty of light skinned people in my dads side of the family.

Funny enough i was at a wedding yesterday and this black American came through. Cool dude, wore native clothes and has been living in Lagos for years...still stood out. We all knw he was American straight away.

Lagos is a mess man. you would think that having one of the highest gdp cities in Africa(top 3), it would actually look like a 1st world city and match it's gdp, but nope, it's just a more populated Accra. Nigerian and Ghanaian major cities are not greatly structure besides Abuja, unlike the francophone african cities. Just compare Abidjan and Dakar city grids compared to the other two.

No offence bro, but you Francophones literally have the energy of your colonial masters, the French. Got a few guys who went to Benin and Congo and got negative vibes from the locals. Whenever you go to non Francophone Countries it is all love.

don't know why you're telling me no offense
I'm not francophone. I'm liberian

I just don't buy into the narrative that francophone africans love their "masters" more than any other. especially when you have countries that have strong ancient and traditional cultures like Guinea, Mali, Senegal, Chad, Niger, Northern Ivory Coast and Mauritania. about 80-90% of the citizens in these countries, speak their traditional languages first and still hold on to their culture. I don't know why Benin people giving you negative vibes have to do with french colonialism anyways. You need to give me better examples then your boys trips to 2 countries.

lol. Benin is actually know. to being one of the most anti non african countries. they have the highest percentage of traditionalist in the entire countries that practices native religions. That the home of Kemi Seba, a popular traditionalist who is anti french.

I'm wondering about people like: Beyonce, Keith Powers, Jada Pinkett Smith<<<Would these people (and by "these people," I mean black people who are lighter in complexion and have more "refined" features) even register as black in Nigeria? Are biracial people thought of as black in Nigeria? The one drop rule never existed there, so I'm assuming someone like Drake, or Zendaya, would be considered non-black in Nigeria.
I don't think so. I was born and lived much of my childhood in Nigeria and we had famous biracial and light skin actors that fit in and no one considered them nothing other than Nigerian.

This guy is Ramsay Nouah, he is biracial. Israeli dad Nigerian mom but he was popular back when I was a kid and I didn't know he was biracial until I did a google search a few minutes ago:

While this guy is Van Vicker, not Nigerian but his mom is Ghanian and his dad was Dutch. He acted in a lot of Nigerian movies and he never stuck out and I don't remember anyone even pointing out that he was biracial/mixed either.

Keep in mind this was the early 2000s and Beyonce and Will Smith was famous as fukk and well known in Nigeria. I don't remember anyone considering Beyonce or Will Smith's wife non-black.

With that term "refined" I'm sensing, some :mjpls: with your post.

Not sure I’m following Haitians retain the most African DNA out the slave descendants brought to the New World. Some of those black Latino groups are also pretty high in African DNA retention especially Garifunas and Afro-Colombians. I’m guessing Yorubas are lighter? But that wouldn’t fit most Haitians.
I'm practically 100% African according to ancestry DNA and I'm west Indian with family from Dominica and neighboring Islands

Not going to argue with you then. I read all your posts and it is obvious you don't know that much about Nigeria

they would smell it on you.

:mjlol::mjlol:

They've got a 6th sense for that. I mean i was born and raised here but spent a decade in Europe. When I came back people would tell me all the time that I looked and acted British. Took me a couple of years to shake that aura off me.

Lagosians can even tell when Nigerians relocate to Lagos.

Francophone countries don't even have their own financial autonomy or rights to their own minerals.

What did you do there, what places you visited, where did you stay, what the nightlife is like. Very interested in visiting

If you like night life and black women, then you will like Lagos. No pawgs, so pawgers should not bother.

Lagos is divided into the Island and the Mainland separated the third mainland bridge. The best clubs are on the Island. There are also beaches, public and privated. If you know the right people you will definitely enjoy it, just don't fall in love with any of the club girls. Many whitemen have wifed what we call ashawos.

Like some have said, its a bit insane here and takes a while to acclimatise. It isn't exactly dangerous, except for the police, but things operate differently here.

If you are brave then you can try the mainland. People are less pretentious and fake.

If Lagos is too much for you, then Abuja would be a better bet. Less rowdy and with a decent nightlife.
