I feel like the business model that is failing is the games as a service model. Sony is sticking with premium single player experiences and great single player games are still successful.

That is not a perfect analogy to utilize as it is not fast in a sense of profits and it takes too much money to implement. Look at the games on the top charts every year, they are not 200 to 400 million dollar budget games with one single player experience.

They are multiplayer experiences with consistent income such as COD NBA Madden Fortnite Apex etc.. Single player games is not a pole a profit minded business should live on. The attachment rate doesn’t make sense to put so much into a game bro.

Sony being in the worst position is laughable. Xbox next piece of hardware wont do any numbers and since Switch 2 will release a generation behind on power, the 3rd party market will be dominated by PlayStation on console. There are still a ton of console gamers out there.

Combine that with timed exclusivity for 1st party and the fact that GTA6 isn't day one on PC, Sony is in a good spot right now and in the future

Spider-man 2 cost double what Spider-man 1 cost and SM2 did not match the sales of 1.

Extremely successful game still led to layoffs at insomniac and sony and insomniac looking for answers as for how to fix this reality.

Sony didn’t try to make all those GAAS games for fun.

The single player AAA game model ain’t hitting no more.

There’s around 100mill and declining console players.

There’s a billion people playing games off of consoles.

Sony has to find a way to reach the billions. Currently they are in the worst spot to do so.

Sony gets 30 percent on 3rd party its a plus but nobody wants less than 50 percent margin on their main investment even if its not their games. Sony development is bleeding money. You can’t make Last Of Us 3 with a 500 million dollar budget and it sell less than 15 million copies when your console has over 80 millions system sold.

This is why they release old games continually because the profit margins is not justifiable to shareholders. They need games that provide continuity in profits they need multiplayer games they need live service games.

Say what you want about Microsoft hardware but when it comes to software they hit the gold mine.

You will see Sony games on Xbox Nintendo soon

Calling cap. If MS wants to be the biggest publisher, they are going to have to do business with Sony/Nintendo in order to make money period. Hell, they are doing it with Sony now because they have to, not want to. Who are they going to pivot to if both Sony and Nintendo are like, "Nah, we ain't fukking with yall" if their prices get out of hand. They don't need them and I say that because PC users will not deal with their fukkery because they don't need MS either.

And many of yall continue to try to put Xbox failure on Sony when it was Xbox leadershop own incompetence that put them in their position. Using Sony as a cope for their own poor leadership's decisions is goofy. Complete lack of accountability.
Microsoft is on cloud, mobile, Xbox, Switch, PlayStation, PC. Their games can now reach the widest audience possible. Sure they're doing business with Sony and Nintendo but in the end this will get them better results.

The proposition on the console maker was always limit your audience for your software to push hardware but if you look at the industry outside of Nintendo that's not working. Even there if Nintendo put games on PlayStation you think they wouldn't do insane numbers? The question is always does that cost in hardware get offset by those sales. Microsoft's hardware collapsed so they don't have to ask that question anymore. They can put their games everywhere and not care. That will lead to maximum growth for them.

Its not multiplayer games in general topping the list. Its just sports games, and Call of duty.
Xbox move away from consoles is not getting them more contracts with professional sports leagues. Nor is that a requirement to obtain those licenses.
Moreover most of the profits go into the licensing for those sports games. 2K paid 1 billion dollars for a 7 year deal with the NBA. Thats the reason they are forced to release a new game every year to recoup and charge people for vc and shyt. 200 million is small in comparison to that.

If people mess with your games....but if your games fall off then what? MS has not been the pillar of creating new IPs either. They need console gamers whether they like it or not. PC Gamers do not fukk with MS like that.

And you can celebrate GP all you want, but it's great primarily for MS and their first party studios, not 3rd parties.

And once Xbox hardware folds, not if, many of those users will get Playstations. Some will goto PC, but not most because they don't got it like that. They can pump fake online, but numbers don't lie. They are going to get another console, not pay for a gaming PC.

Sports games are multiplayer and pay to win formula basically a live service game. NBA2K makes a killing yearly with VC.

Microsoft understood that investing in hardware long term is not a viable solution. Microsoft is one the of the most powerful companies in the world they see the trends. This is why they invested in cloud and partnerships with Nintendo/Sony/PC. Why not make more profits with your software? That is the question I am asking in this forum and the fanboys can’t answer it.

To what end? Another 115 million selling piece of hardware? Are you not paying attention to what Sony has been doing. Why do you think they tried to pivot to live service?

Compare it to Apple. The iPhone used to do crazy numbers and these days it sells but it's not that juggernaut anymore. Apple pivots to services and AirPods. What's Sony's pivot? It's clear that the console business matured just like mobile phones has. The shareholders want growth.

If not live services then what? They can't just go back to doing what they were before because that's exactly why they sought out live services. It wasn't enough anymore for them. The answer is clear. Microsoft already showed them. If you can't grow your platform anymore then you have to go to other platforms.

You aren't gonna convince me having the only viable piece of hardware that 3rd parties will develop for can be downplayed. The share of 3rd parties being played on PS next gen is going to be massive.

Microsoft is FINALLY seeing their 1st parties drop after the race has been run, and they're showing up on the competitions hardware.

Yes PS has had to do some course correction after the live service shyt nobody asked for, but their studios still put out games people want. That plus the impending 3rd party stranglehold will keep them profitable

Game Pass will eventually become an excessively expensive premium service that prices most gamers out. Microsoft will be that third party publisher and the biggest one and Game Pass kinda gets in the way of that at these prices.
