Sony can make an emulator to run PS3 games. They are just making excuses. I can understand why when you consider what they invested in by purchasing Gaikai (bad move).

PowerPC this, Cell processing that is all bs. Sony has all the tools at their disposal to do it. A team full of nerds on the PC getting AROUND system security and nowhere near the experience nor budget to do it is getting it done.

But it’s not even close to being optimized. You need at least a 8700k cpu at 5 ghz to get a game running perfectly on the emulator. That shyt will cook that weak ass chip in the PS4. In order to get the PS3 running they would have to legit put half a PS3 in it based on the cpu. It was easy for Microsoft to emulate because the cpu used in the 360 wasn’t as much of cluster fukk like the Ps3 and a lot the computing got off loaded to the gpu. Hence why 360 got all the better ports in that gen.

In the same article it says it they spent most time exceeding the original games perfromace.

where does it say that? obviously they were able to use the more powerful GPU, and more memory, for improvements

An emulator would only be expected to match performance and in some ways would be ok to perform a bit worse/janky.

And again all these optimizations could be applied on a system level for other games.

Nobody denied it would be difficult. Fact is, it can and is being done by people with much less expertise, resources, and information.

they got TLOU running in RPCS3. shyt's like 3fps with glitches/issues

and that's probably with a 4+ Ghz CPU. sure it can get better with more optimization. but at some point you reach actual bottlenecks that can't be overcome with optimizations. as good as a 4+ Ghz CPU can do, how much more will it take for a 1.6 Ghz CPU to get the job done?

The excuses in this thread are damn near shocking.
ultimately we have reality on our side. the PS4 can't emulate the PS3 because it doesn't :umad:

you dudes out here like...

More powerful memory and gpu doesn't take you from 30fps to 60fps. It was CPU optimization that took them there. They went from sub 10fps to well over 60fps by optimizing the code work across multiple cores.

and that's probably with a 4+ Ghz CPU. sure it can get better with more optimization. but at some point you reach actual bottlenecks that can't be overcome with optimizations. as good as a 4+ Ghz CPU can do, how much more will it take for a 1.6 Ghz CPU to get the job done?
Remember when you needed a super powerful system to play the Wii U emulator?

Zelda was running at 2fps on the strongest hardware. Now you can play it at a reasonable level on relatively weak hardware.

Obviously there's a limit to how much optimization can get you, but these are amateur developers with no access to internal documentation/hardware/software or unlimited bags of money/time.

Sony could do much better. And already has. A hypothetical emulator would simply apply the optimizations they came up with to all games.

The Xbox One isn't even "emulating"
the Xbox 360 or OG Xbox from what I gather it's being tricked into thinking it's running an Xbox One game.

I'm pretty sure something similar could be done with the PS3, it probably isn't a matter of "Is it possible ?" but more "Is it worth it ?".
I'm shocked someone like @LÍQUIDO is dapping nonsense Meach is spewing. Like, a few google searches could educate you guys. TLOU Remastered is not being emulated, it was ported and it was really difficult.
Bridging the generation gap: Porting games to new platforms You're supposed to be a tech guy but you refuse to read some shyt that's readily available online explaining the shyt :mindblown:?

You guys are making dumbass equivalencies by mentioning ports of PS3 games recompiled to PS4 as if that's the trump card. "Aha!" Like sit down :dahell:

The most baffling point is @MeachTheMonster keeps going "but but there's games running on RPCS3! why can't sony do it!?" but he REFUSES to mention the specs that's running those games and even then how "functional" it is. Flickering graphics, slowdowns.

TL:DR

It's a lot of leg work just to try and port a game over so getting the game running like native through brute force on the PS4 for PS3 BC is just not feasible.

2ndly, there's no incentive for them to do so. MSFT was the one that needed goodwill and a bigger library.

Third, if you're that pressed for BC then buy an Xbox.
This post doesn't apply to this thread though breh.

That isn't how the Xbox One does
emulation, if they brute forced everything it wouldn't be possible on Xbox One to emulate the 360 either.

how can a 1.6 Ghz Jaguar core emulate a 3.2 Ghz PS3 SPU?

it's like if you have 8 cars that can go 100 mph racing against 1 car that can go 300 mph. the 300 mph car will win everytime. the 8 100 mph cars can get more 'work' done, in that they can move more passengers/cargo/data/etc, but the 300 mph car is still faster
The CPU in the PS3 didn't actually perform like a 3.2 GHz CPU, in practice it was much slower because it was in order
not OoO like current gen console cpus.
