I would stop everything I was doing when Kobe played. Usually it was on NBA on NBC so it had the music and everything. Made me want to play ball that much more. Thought it was dope he could speak multiple languages. I remember seeing him and the Williams sisters and Tiger in an Ebony magazine back in 95 I think. They were showcasing who had next. I was 12 or 13 at the time. Followed Kobe all the way from that until now. Dropping 81 points on the Raptors, the alley oop to Shaq. A lot of great games in the Western Conference playoffs. Definitely one of the best to ever do it.

Crazy a lot of people (on IG/YouTube, casual basketball fans, analysist, journalists) was disrespecting Kobe saying Harden was better, not that long ago

Then Lebron passes him yesterday which is kinda taking the torch from Kobe after years of getting the MJ comparisons Kobe used to get.

Since retirement Kobe was never forgotten but it’s like the sports media and pop culture threw him in the bushes

I remember seeing a few all time lists recently where he wasn’t in the top 10, barley top 20.

Now everyone calling him the GOAT again

Funny how things work out

Just on Saturday I saw a former spurs writer, now a writer for nba.com throw up one of them LeBron is better than Kobe articles. I hope he feels like a piece of shyt now, the last thing he said about Kobe was a hit piece to diminish his legacy.

shyt is so fukkin surreal to me. Like I still can't believe it. You usually don't have ball legends go like that. Most the legends are still living and died of old age not a freak accident like this and how young he was man. :mjcry:

Dude was a big part of my childhood and I remember the first year he played. His daughter man you knew she had a future in the WNBA that we will never see. shyt hurts all around man.

Not quite a day later, and still almost literally in a state of denial. I keep looking at all the alerts on my phone and convincing myself all these accounts were hacked.

I can't remember the last time being this stunned or emotionally affected by a public figure's death - I guess Michael Jackson. Before that, maybe Aaliyah. Len Bias before that, probably.

It's just one of the most devastating sports deaths ever. The suddenness of it, the family angle, what he's done and had been doing for the next generation, the fact that he was squarely in the public consciousness not even 24 hours before. And, well, there's only one Kobe.

It really is compounded by his daughter being with him - and as a dad of a soon-to-be 9-y.o., that cuts like a knife - and they were en route to her tournament...and then you think of how ingrained he (and more broadly, the NBA) is in our culture, SM, and especially globally...I can't think of much else that compares to it.

RIP to all of the victims, and strength to the families.

"The late Kobe Bryant" ... man, that sounds and looks utterly surreal.

This is going to sting for a long, long time.

After the news, I went to look for, and found, the photo on my old external hard drive I took in 2012 when Kobe hit a game winner at the ACC against my Raps. I remember being so salty during the game because so many Laker fans were in attendance (probably fairweather Raptor fans on any other night.) The energy in the building was awesome as always because of him.

Leaving the arena I was initially mad we lost but then was grateful to witness and capture that fade away winner on camera, despite the low quality from my point-and-shoot Canon. It was a sight to see, James Johnson hand right in his face and all.

Gonna keep my Bryant Lower Merion jersey purchased back in 03 in safe keeping, will probably frame it this week.

Rest easy Mamba, thank you for the memories. Gone way too soon. RIP to Gigi and to the other lives lost. :mjcry:
