I was prepared to hate this book. I am not a sports fan, and I am especially not a fan of Kobe Bryant. If the assault charges against him had taken place in the Me Too Era, I suspect he would not have had the great basketball career which he did.

But this is a gorgeous volume, a loving tribute which does not shy away from the Colorado assault which for so many of us non-sports fans defined Kobe Bryant. In examining his legacy, this unpleasant part of his history is satisfactorily addressed. If it had not been, no amount of extolling his virtues would have made me like this slender tribute. Loaded with ample photos and recollections from many who knew him, if you are a Kobe Bryant fan, you will appreciate this publication. And if you are not, you can appreciate that it provides a balanced portrait of the man.

The Amazon link just has 3 reviews right now but i saw some cac post the review above and now im doubting the content. I hate when people make comments like that above. its real passive aggressive. I really hope ESPN didn't focus so much on Colorado

I scanned the mags and some have a small section that focuses on that part of his life. I mean, I get why it’s in there: if you’re gonna cover the life of Kobe you gotta bring up that part.

It is what it is, but if you’re a Kobe or Lakers fan, that moment in his life is non-existent. :ld:

Kobe's on-ball defense was something else. Definitely one of the best in NBA history. When he wanted to lock in even guys like Kyrie and D-Wade needed a pick to get him off them.

This is what makes him the ultimate 1 on 1 player. In 1 on 1 there are no screens. So you gotta be able to create space just with your skill set. Kobe's on-ball defense is gonna shut down almost everyone. Then on offense we all know he was the king of isolation play.

Same here. Never cried before about the death of someone I never met till Kobe. Sunday didn't even feel real. And then when I went out on Monday the whole city just felt gloomy and people were really down. And I don't live in LA. This was Nashville, TN. Even all the way out here the loss was felt. We also had billboards go up soon after that had RIP Legend with Kobe's face on it all over the city.

I remember when Michael Jackson and Muhammad Ali died. Kobe's death hit folks harder. I don't remember people being as down in my city as that Monday after his death.

I now work about 40 miles outside downtown L.A.

The mood was down and depressed AF..
Even all the women were saying productivity was gonna be low because of Kobe..

Problem is I got three bosses from Chicago, North Carolina and Boston..

They started sending the normal corny ass emails .. about being "Laser focused" and "kicking it into overdrive"

Rest of the office was like :camby:

I left early ..

I was on my phone the whole morning anyway.. cried on the drive home that day as they played Kobe's mamba out speech on ESPN radio 710

Definitelya lock down defender..

I used to love when he would get in guys asses..

But his off the ball D was beautiful as well.. casuals never saw that part but I would pause the came and show how he shut down passing lanes and changed offensive plays..

Coaches hated that because he would break plays and force the offense into shooting threes..

There's a reason he's tied for 1st all-time in terms All-Defensive 1st Team selections and 2nd all-time in terms of All-Defensive team selections in total. He got those selections when the coaches used to vote on the All-Defensive teams. Coaches knew how impactful Kobe was defensively while cacs who never played the game tried to act like he was getting those selections based on reputation. Even at 34 years old in 2013 he was locking up cats like Kyrie Irving.

If you don't have him at least Top 3 all-time then yes you are underrating him. To me the only 3 NBA players with a case to be the GOAT (based on actual skill not accomplishments) is Jordan, Kobe, and Hakeem. They were the only 3 players in history to "master the game" and have zero weaknesses.

If you wanna know who the best is, look at who active NBA players seek out when they want to improve their game. Kobe, LeBron, and Dwight all went to work out with Hakeem when they were at the top of their games. We all know how many players have worked out with Kobe. Guys from Giannis to Kawhi to Kyrie have all been to the Mamba Academy to learn from Kobe. And then we obviously all know how much Kobe learned from Jordan.

I can't think of any other players apart from Jordan, Kobe, and Hakeem that actual NBA players are seeking out to try and learn from. That there should tell you who the GOATs are.
