My question is wouldnt a pilot know hes going up based on what hes doing with the controls ? I dont know how helis are controlled tho

Yeah, I'm sure they have elevation levels. They were in fog though, so I don't think his eyes were on the dials. But hand controls/motion should be able to tell what you're doing.

I can only assume he was gonna turn back (fall back to another airport) due to the fog, and he was going down to get out of the weather conditions.

Won't you be able to feel if you're going up or down? I've never been in a heli, but if you're going over 150 MPH won't you notice that?
I don’t think the helicopter necessarily has to be going nose down when descending. It could have been flying completely upright. So to the people inside it would have felt like they were still going in a straight line.

So Cal
Great post.

IMO that's the best move I've ever seen on a basketball court.
He had so many moves. :wow: One thing that frustrated me about post post broken knee Kobe (he was still the mamba after the achilles injury, dammit :to:)

was that he never used any of them.

Same thing with me. I used to watch the NBA religiously when Kobe played. Everytime he stepped on the floor it was MUST WATCH TV. After his retirement basketball has just not been the same because nobody brings excitement like he did.

Watching Kobe play was the most exciting thing I witnessed in sports over my entire life.

Same here breh.. I used to tape Kobes games before TiVo so I never missed a game.. sometimes I would watch them twice.

Since he retired, I haven't really followed the Lakers..

Uses to hate Bron.. but Kobe's death got me to reevaluate my stance on him.. just not ready to start watching again.

still dont understand why the copter took that dive so quickly
Spatial disorientation is my guess, he likely had no idea what was in front of him

The way that copter just randomly makes a sharp downwards left turn after going up makes me think the pilot had no idea he was actually going downwards. Only one that makes any sense in my head
after further review Kobe might've been better than MJ:patrice:

MJ was 24 when he linked up with a 22 year old Scottie.....if kobe had a young legend to build with as he enters his prime does he really finish with just 5 :patrice:. I've always had MJ slightly above Kobe but a lot of bullshyt agendas from media/haters fukked up the narrative of his career. Kobe's help came in a more disjointed fashion. He didn't get to "build" with a fellow legend of his era.

I also got Kareem in there.....my top 3 is some combination of MJ/Kobe/Kareem they clearly stand out above the rest when you combine skills, longevity, on court accomplishments
I won't go as far as putting him above MJ or even same tier but I'm always going to bat for Kobe and I can definitely agree that starting his career on a contender was more of a curse than a blessing, he never had that early stage of empty but promising production tons of rookies get for getting drafted in a bad team and then later having the pieces around them (or leave the squad) to compete for titles. 96 was just a much different time in regards to how coaches utilized high schoolers particularly on a team that was going for a title as soon as they acquired Shaq

He dominated high school, dominated pre-draft, dominated summer league, even played great during the rising Stars game, when given the opportunity he often made it clear he was the best player on the court or at least in the discussion. The tools to average 20ppg as an 18 years old rookie was definitely there, not saying it'd be an efficient 20 ppg, LeBron and KD weren't efficient scorers as rookies either, but that's not the point. I have a spreadsheet with tons of relevant data and in it he had a period in 1997-1998 (still a teen) where he averaged 18.1/3.5/2.3 on on 44% fg and 36.6 3p% in 26.8 mpg - which is 24.3/4.7/3.1 per 36 minutes - and Lakers went 15 - 7 during that stretch... Without Shaq

Without Shaq from 00-04 he also averaged 30.1/7.1/5.3 on 44.3% (I think I also counted like 4-5 games where Shaq barely played) which should still be above league average and that team wasn't even built around him during that era - nor should it been, Shaq was in his prime and the way the game was played clearly favored bigs, but it gives a glimpse into what he could have done production wise if he had his own team and went through the trials & tribulations of what other great players went through early in their careers instead of at age 24 (first real glimpse, that bad 02-03 start where it was really just him initially) and age 26 for an entire season (which was eerily similar to Brons first season in LA). I don't see how he couldn't have had a promising rookie season but one that still led to lottery and the chance to pair up with Duncan (who would have gotten along fine with Kobe and even be cool with Kobe getting the shine) or Tmac the following year who could have been his Pippen/Paul George running mate. Maybe one of Pierce/Vince/Dirk could have joined forces if they missed out on 97 draft and the 19 year old led his team to another missed postseason. I just find the whole discrediting his early career so annoying for those reasons

But we'll never know, which is the fun in these debates anyway
