Know how bad R&B has fallen off?

I think one of the main reasons R&B fell off is the disappearance of Maxwell, Jill Scott, and D'Angelo. They just stopped releasing music and left a void. Had they consistently maintained their presence we'd be better off. No one is doing this now:

I also gotta blame females. They don't want a kind, gentlemanly, loving man. They want thugs so of course we're left with a bunch of nikkas half singing about, "twerk it for a real nikka." That Weeknd verse on Or Nah had me like:what:

I remember listening to My Cherie Amour as a little kid and while too young to understand love I could still connect to the emotion and wanted to experience it. Technology may have rendered love obsolete and we only want to satisfy ourselves with lust and quick fixes:mjcry:

Industry wise R&B was always supported by largely black consumers. Record sales are down so labels aren't gonna sign acts they can't sell to whites.

Nobody would "rather complain" about anything - they'd rather have the thing they're complaining about rectified.
The fact of the matter is people would love to appreciate new music, if:

- it's good
- they know it's out

Case in point - I love Tony Toni Tone, and I had no idea they were supposed to drop an album this year until @DemureNatural mentioned it in here.
I had no idea Boyz II Men dropped a new album, either. Why is this type of information not being advertised?
No ones albums outside of the big artist are advertised like that.

Teyana Taylor albums is coming out tomorrow and I found out because she post it on instagram.

There aren't commercials for album releases anymore but, there are plenty of informative websites that you could look into

This is the crux of the predicament...you didn't used to have to go diggin' for (good) R&B.
It was just there.

If Ariana Grande and Sam Smith are the R&B artists de jour, somethin' wrong.

Man, The people (internet still dictate whats popular and/or successful) You think Bobby Shurmda is all over radio with Hot nikka getting that fan fare from the internet.

The problem is hiphop is where the money is at. Loyal & NaNa is what get the 2 biggest R&B artist paid. I don't understand the point in complaining about those songs when those R&B artist are still dropping mostly R&B/Love/emotions/relationship oriented music.

The radio follows what gets popular on the internet not the other way around

No, the radio follows by and large with what the labels push them to play. Bobby is signed to Epic Records. They pay the radio stations to push their artists. It's not a secret.

Internet hits and buzz will get you signed to a major then the major pays radio stations to "push" you.

If you're still looking for the regular forms of advertisement to be aware of good music you're doing it wrong. The internet changed everything. C'mon now...

Nah, the internet does play a big role on what gets played. The radio will NEVER be on the internet's level as far as something blowing up. I hear songs all the time months before they hit the radio, and I usually know right when I hear it that it'll be a hit once people catch on.

you're partially right. Explicitness went too FAR. The art of songwriting about something like sex is to write it in a coy way. Basically, say it without saying it. Part of that was because society wasn't ready for bluntness, but it made the songs more creative.

Teddy Pendergrass, Marvin Gaye, even an (edgy for their time) early R. Kelly, Jodeci. They could all say it without saying too much.

Speaking of Kels, look at something like, "Your Body's Calling" We know it's about sex, but hell, as a kid I could sing it and not get in trouble. Now even he's had to adjust and doing songs called, "Marry the P___y" It's still dope song, :whew: but that's beside the point. LOL

Point is, now you can make an R&B song called, "I Just Wanna F*ck", and just say that over and over and it's acceptable :snoop:

Yeah,no soul makes it have no appreciation or replayability

I just saw this James Brown Documentary and all I want to know is where are the live bands at?....nikkas need to learn how to play the drums, guitar, the saxophone, the trumpet, something....

We need to take it all the way back...

Nah, black folk abandoned that shyt years ago because they want that fast money in computerized music.

Had a talk with my older brother about old R&B and he kinda summed it up for me..The dynamics of a relationship from the courting, to the ups and downs in a committed relationship is something that does not resonate with teenagers and young adults because most have no clue what they are talking about at that age..hence the rap lyrics posing as R&B lyrics. My brother noticed that the songs he likes have almost nothing to do with how/why he would fvck a woman but how the love/romance between them impacted his and her life..i feel that if you have to be explicit and focus on the shallow end of the pool, you have no place talking about love/romance/relationships...grow up first..

Relationships in general are in pure shyt. There is no hope or work put in nowadays and basically, people are together for sex and 'likes' on social networks.

But we living in a different world all together, being in love and being with one chick is not something thats looked up to in this age groups

And it seem more and more artist are writing they own, and u can't expect them to write about something they dont know, all they know is

shytting on nikkaz/hoesfukking others nikkaz bytches
fukking mad hoes
no heartbreak cause most people dont even get close to people these days like that

Its life, until u change the world this is where we gon be

Yeah, that shyt still makes me :to:

All these r&b cats wanna be thugs, rap and sing over trap beats now :scust:

NO soul

Tell me about it. Chris Brown is talented, but he gave into the shytty trends and that is limiting his potential severely.

Props on bringing up Tony Toni Tone. Perfect example of the diverse R&B, we 90s kids grew up

on. This Crack Baby Generation couldn't fathom songs like Anniversary, Slow Wine, Whatever

You Want, Get Down, Lay Your Head On My Pillow, Ask Of You, etc. We

were children listening to these adult-oriented, but non vulgar love songs. What does the kids have to listen to now "fukking, fukking, fukking, and Suck dikk for some Truckfit"...it's all so demonic friends:birdman:

Nah, there are R&B singers that give in to the strip club culture and talk about eating girls asses :scust:

There use to be a time when you pulled to the gas station and someone pumped the gas for you. Now you have to get your ass out of the car and do it yourself

Nah, How many songs blow up that are put out on radio first? Most songs bubble through the internet..and then the radio puts them into regular rotation

My Pops Forever RIP
My god, You are so stuck on your opinions.

Act like Trey has't released all of this a singles with his last two album cycles

These threads all prove the same thing.

Most of these so called R&B fans derive their opinions soley off of singles that are played on the radio.

Its the only reason they make the same complaints and have the same arguments that have been disproven time and time again.

I fukks with Trey but I'd rather hear him rap at this point. His studio albums always have 50% garbage. Even Trey would admit that.

Wake me up when he decides to put out another Anticipation or #Lemmeholdatbeat

My point is those artists are usually on major labels. These radio stations aren't playing artists whose labels aint paying em. Fact.

This sounds better live. No theatrics just a band and back up singers:wow:

Janelle killed it:

Let me throw in a classic 90's joint:

There a lot of foreign groups doing interesting R&B/Jazz influenced music. That's my only option for new stuff to listen too.

I disagree, but this thread isn't about that.

These people are trying to claim that black people don't love each other anymore and that's why R&B doesn't sound the same. When the reason is music changed.

90s R&B sounds nothing like 80s R&B
