I think one of the main reasons R&B fell off is the disappearance of Maxwell, Jill Scott, and D'Angelo. They just stopped releasing music and left a void. Had they consistently maintained their presence we'd be better off. No one is doing this now:

I remember listening to My Cherie Amour as a little kid and while too young to understand love I could still connect to the emotion and wanted to experience it. Technology may have rendered love obsolete and we only want to satisfy ourselves with lust and quick fixes
