Think you can give me a brief summary? Maybe a paragraph or two?
Now that I think about it, I don’t remember much about KH other then some nikkas wearing trench coats and the blonde boy is trapped in sora’s soul(?) Donald and goofy are peripheral to what’s going on in the story and Ansem the great is kinda evil but not really(?)

The ansem the great you're prolly thinking about was not really ansem at all, but the heartless of his student Xehanort. The evil plan he had in kingdom hearts 1 was just one of many plans Xehanort put together to achieve his final goal. I legit don't think its possible to wrap this up in a paragraph or two....seriously.

But for the super diet short and sweet answer, Xehanort has done a lot of shyt and is basically responsible for everything in this series so far. He's done all type of crazy shyt to achieve his goal, which is to unlock kingdom hearts and the X-blade (pronounced keyblade) through a clash of light and darkness. He's one of those finish the experiment by any means type of villains, where he's doing all this simply to see the battle between light and darkness with his own eyes. And willing to do fukked shyt in the process to witness this final goal.

I gotta get caught up on this series since I own all the games on PS4. It's 3 Rikus now? I remember one was wearing a hood or something and was in somebody else's body. Maybe it was a heartless or a nobody. I must have totally missed the other 2. I barely remember Kingdom Hearts 2.

WHAT THE fukk IS GOING ON???

Sora fighting Aqua raises so many questions.

One she's in the same form she was in when Mickey/Riku meets her. So with this we are to assume Aqua beat that ass and sent Riku/Mickey running back to mysterious tower. Which makes sense. Only thing is we see when Mickey/Riku goes back to Mysterious Tower and meets back up with S/D/G Sora is still in his KH2 clothes. So the Riku/Mickey/Aqua scene/fight happens very early on in the game.

In this fight Sora has his Big Hero 6 keyblade which we know is one of the end game worlds. So somehow Sora near the end of the game has to go into the RoD to meet Aqua. Now again this has to be before the Vanitias/Aqua scene as Aqua at that point is already back to normal.

So we can assume this is the scene where Sora "Saves" Aqua. But where are Donald and Goofy? Where are Riku and Mickey? Why in the world is Sora flying solo in the damn realm of darkness?? Sora doesn't even know who Aqua is really. He met her one time when he was 10 for all of 10 mins.

A lot man. Birth By Sleep, 358/2 Days and Dream Drop Distance are all important to game's overarching plot (which is fukked on Square Enix's end..it shouldn't be that way). Either grab the collections on the PS4 or just watch a synopsis video on YouTube.

This series plot is hot trash and the writing is God awful when you take off the nostalgia glasses. I'm just here to watch Donald Duck cast Firaga at this point.

No nostalgia glasses here, the writing and plot was trash even when I first played it in highschool. I basically just tuned the story out, the gameplay and graphics carried it for me.
