They really should bring it back and make it prestigious. The history it holds is already there. It would be perfect to set up a title shot for the winner; maybe at Summerslam? It gives creative a nice way to actually do something interesting.
It can build stars too. Hell, even have title holders (not the main ones) put up their title in the matches to make it interesting.

If they bring it back... I think they should go back to the traditional way it was done.
Like on your Raw/Smackdown. Have your qualifying matches but on the PPV make it a tournament.
To me it went down hill with they kinda stopped doing the qualifying matches... just selected 8 guys or so, then had them doing the lead up matches on tv and only the final match on a PPV... till they even stopped that and did the whole thing on tv... smh

The only thing great about the king of the ring was whoever was wearing the crown. Hardly anything about the tournament was memorable.

It COULD be. It can even progress a storyline involving a future main event wrestler who isn't quite there. It can be another stepping stone to creating the future talent.

They had a golden opportunity to do this when they rebooted KOTR as a network special in 2015, but had the wrong man win the finals.
Saddled Barrett with a gimmick he didn't need, told the world the brass didn't fully invest in Neville. Hurt both guys, long term.

Pretty much. King of the Ring is a concept that used to have a purpose, but not anymore. And knowing WWE, they're incapable of booking this well.
Also knowing WWE, they're going to bring it back and do it anyway.
And make Roman win it...
