yes.

the only tournament in american ppv that really worked was wrestlemania iv and that was billed as ANDRE VS HOGAN II on some 'guaranteed to see' shyt

http://www.thecoli.com/threads/wwf-e-ppv-buys-from-1985-to-2012.6747/

i'm gonna compare ppvs with tournaments, the month before, the month after, since mania iv

95
In Your House: Mother's Day - 180,000 aprox.
King of the Ring -150,000 aprox.
IYH 2: The Jackknife v. The Powerbomb -155,000 aprox.

Judgement Day 2000: 420,000
King Of The Ring 2000: 475,000
Fully Loaded 2000: 420,000
[first year ever for those PPVs]

Judgment Day 2001: 405,000
King of the Ring 2001: 445,000
Invasion: 775,000

Judgment Day 2002: 373,000
King of the Ring 2002: 320,000
Vengeance 2002: 375,000

Judgment Day 2003: 315,000
Bad Blood 2003: 385,000 - you remove the tournament and buys go up YOY and month over month
Vengeance 2003: 365,000

this might be the most inconclusive study i've ever seen:pachaha:

how does somebody look at these numbers and arrive at the conclusion "americans don't like wrestling tournaments":pachaha:

what were the build for these shows? what was the main event? how come there are instances where tournament shows grossed higher than non tournament shows??

you outchea reachin harder than dhalsim.

Cause everyone doesnt need a king of the ring run
Unless its a vet with no world title experiance like say regal qho won the last one why put a guy like cena or orton in it?

it's not about the run so much as it would be just hyping up the card.

obviously we live in an era of monthly PPV's so it's kinda hard to build towards anything anymore... but imagine a world where they could actually put 2-3 months into a show. qualifying matches, tons of angles... by the time you got to KOTR and the entries were all TOP GUYS... i dunno i think the shyt would be pretty intense.

i understand where you're coming from but quite frankly i am tired of predictability. an 8 man tournament where only 2-4 guys have a shot of winning doesn't do it for me. but an 8 man tournament featuring the best of the best? like a PLAYOFF type deal?? where you're not really sure who's gonna win? where you're amped up going into the FIRST ROUND???

:ooh:

gimme that!

Uncertain grounds
i could/should work but not how creative has been booking things the past few years. most of the matches would just seem like regular raw matches (which some do on PPVs anyway I guess)..with the winner or finalists being somewhat inevitable.

now if they had more feuds that weren't simply 1 on 1s with a bunch of guys going over others in a sort of preliminary build up with no one going over another guy twice closer to the PPV then it could be done right.

for instance... a defeats b, c defeats d, e defeats f, g defeats h
then d defeats a, b defeats c, h defeats e, f defeats g

something like that could work with good writing in between. the big belt has to be on the line though. maybe give the champ a bye or have him lose early randomly...if he loses in round 1 or 2 whoever beats him is the champ going into the next round..cash in always possible too.

sidenote: i miss elimination chamber :beli:

...why not have nxt do it and winner goes to the main roster. Or have 1 champ 1 tag team 1 normal wrestler 1 female wrestler 1 nxt wrestler 1 legend and 1 wrestler voted on by the fans. ...but this is today we're talking about so that probably won't happen.

All 12 ppv's equate to one big tournament and you can see them all for $9.99
