My dreads are neat (my girl retwists them once a week or fortnight), they don't look unprofessional at all. Especially if I tie them back, close to my head..

As long as you looks clean, you're fine

Advice from a bruh who’s had locs for over 15years. You might want to slow up a lil bit on the retwist’s because eventually it can really thin your locs.

You have to put your personality locked in a box and put it somewhere else. You have to give up yourself and play this role in order to thrive in corporate America. Although he's not wrong where do you draw the line? In the music world there are countless stories of gay orgies taking place in the homes of various music executives. Studio gangstas and 'hood' brehs compromising their own ideals by taking it up the ass in hopes that their project will receive funding. Ditto in the music business. How many men have Rihanna fukked to stay in the limelight? What kind of foul shyt Jay-Z had to do behind the scenes to achieve such great success? Gotta draw the line somewhere.

A lot of emotional responses in this thread, but he ain’t lying. If you want to be in a high position in corporate America, you gotta play by the rules. It ain’t for just Black people either. It’s not like you see white dudes with long or eccentric hair being Vice Presidents of major corporations.

This is America though. If you wanna rock long hair or locks, you can choose to be your own boss and make as much money as you’re able to.
That's different then telling black men they will remain at the BOTTOM if they don't cut their hair

Big facts. I’m 7 3/4 years in and I retwist every 4-8 weeks. It’s been 3 months rn prolly will get retwist this weekend. Once a month should be good for someone who needs em neat all the time. But once a week will fukk your shyt up

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
A lot of people who don’t agree with his statement are the same people who walk past homeless people and give them the side eye not knowing some of those people might be more intelligent than them.

:mjlol:

the issue with these debates like most debates is that people only see how it effects them personally or the people who look like them.

I actually know a fashion consultant myself and you’d be surprised how many things we do in judgement based on looks.

As a matter of fact some of you people judge black people if their pants are below their ass

:mjpls:

So what you mad about?

This perception about Black hair appearance is dated.

I've worked at two major tech companies and almost all of the Black colleagues that I knew sported dreads.

It depends on the profession. I’m not a 6 fig fig breh, but I’m making $41 an hour at one job and $44 an hour at another job and I have dreads down to my mid back.
I couldn't get an entry level job anywhere before I got my master's degree:mjpls:

I mean I won’t sugar coat it. Unless you are extremely qualified getting a job especially senior level job in corporate America you are fighting an uphill battle if you have locks or gold teeth or unkempt hair. It’s not right or fair but it’s just something I’ve noticed that is common. It seems to be accepted that the corporate world has a look.

That doesn’t mean you can’t have locks or a fro and make it. I’m just saying you may have to be even more qualified.
