I mean I won’t sugar coat it. Unless you are extremely qualified getting a job especially senior level job in corporate America you are fighting an uphill battle if you have locks or gold teeth or unkempt hair. It’s not right or fair but it’s just something I’ve noticed that is common. It seems to be accepted that the corporate world has a look.

That doesn’t mean you can’t have locks or a fro and make it. I’m just saying you may have to be even more qualified.

Yeah a lot of brehs here may be successful. But I don’t see C-suite, VPs, Heads at THESE “mainstream” companies with dreads.

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
I have locs and my hair is dyed

Ton of other folks in my building have locs and colored hair as well, and tattoos.

thank god I live in a black Mecca :wow:

You’re a teacher tho. Go to the white collar companies in Midtown Atlanta and then come back and report to us how easy it is in the black Mecca lol.

Teachers in general have less restrictions in how they are suppose to look. My teachers professors had locs and I don’t live in ATL.

....
Don’t understand the Kevin hate

He’s pro black man

and he’s talking about upper management white collar where it’s rare that you see other than low haircuts on black men.

Black men need to get their own business and put white face in front:ufdup:
:mjlol:

It’s sad comment about our society/ country that this still works ...

I got dreads and I make 6 figures plus at a big 4 financial firm (and have worked at some of the largest corporations in America). fukk outta here wit that c00n shyt :mjlol:

I don’t think dreads are a problem as people make it seem.

I had dreads while working for the department of transportation and since planning is filled with hipsters it was all love when I got them and there were other blacks with them also

i mean that makes sense it should instill in the student that you can learn from anyone regardless if their appearance is different than yours.

Australia
Advice from a bruh who’s had locs for over 15years. You might want to slow up a lil bit on the retwist’s because eventually it can really thin your locs.
Big facts. I’m 7 3/4 years in and I retwist every 4-8 weeks. It’s been 3 months rn prolly will get retwist this weekend. Once a month should be good for someone who needs em neat all the time. But once a week will fukk your shyt up
Wait.. what you mean?!:martin:

Im in Australia, so it's always hot and I'm always at the beach swimming.. so my shyt comes unravelled all the time. Tbh this is the first time I've had regular retwists.. so my hairs gonna fall out?! How?!:jbhmm:

I'm 31 with a strong hairline, so I thought I'd be fine.. I've had dreads twice before but they were freeform and I didn't touch it, so I'm new to this keeping em nice and formed life:jbhmm:

A lot of emotional responses in this thread, but he ain’t lying. If you want to be in a high position in corporate America, you gotta play by the rules. It ain’t for just Black people either. It’s not like you see white dudes with long or eccentric hair being Vice Presidents of major corporations.

This is America though. If you wanna rock long hair or locks, you can choose to be your own boss and make as much money as you’re able to.
This is true

That's different then telling black men they will remain at the BOTTOM if they don't cut their hair
Bottom of the corporate ladder bro... that’s what he’s addressing. He said if you want to be on the board of executives, ppl tend to have the same conservative look. If you have your business then it doesn’t matter.
