Yeah, I don't remember the last time I heard a song from Illmatic on any of the main radio stations here in Los Angeles after 1999. If I heard anything on the radio it was this year on a small station if I remember right.

Some LA heads confirm, when was the last time an Illmatic song was played? How about something featuring Wu Tang?

If anything, I'm surprised no mention of Outkast since you do hear it here often.

KDAY plays World Is Yours and It Aint Hard to Tell every once in a while.

I'm surprised he didn't have a CMW/Eiht album on the list and Aquemini of course. Black Album instead of Blueprint too? But hey his list, and it's a pretty good one.

:rudy: who would ever believe that a 25/26 year old from Compton would listen to Dr. Dre, DJ Quik & 2000 era Cash Money?

:yeshrug: cool with me.

its a good album but it doesnt have anything that makes it special TO ME. thats all a top 25 list is.

cant knock someone for what they grew up around and are influenced by.

Exactly
Its in my top 8 albums of all time, but nikkas act like every hip hop head is suppose to like whatever they like, naa nikka it don't work that way, 90% chance that if your not from NyC u weren't fukkin with illmatic in 94. Period. nikkas in cali wasn't visualizing what nas was talking about in 94 just like nyc nikkas wasn't visualizing that west coast shyt in 94.

Illmatic and 36 Chambers did not get mainstream radio play in LA when they were out. The only time you would hear them is if you watched Rap City back in the day or during radio segments where DJs were doing mixes. They were also played on the late night hip hop radio shows but you had to be a hard core hip hop head to be tuning in.

I'm glad I saw this.

First off, shout out to his homeboy Earl. lol

imo, the things he's praising about some of these albums is void from his own album that everyone seems to love.

He said he liked the aggressiveness of DMX and Pac. His album ain't got that.
He said he liked the tone of B.G. on Chopper City. He ain't doin' that.
He said he liked the feel of Cash Money's ish. His album don't feel like those.
He said he liked the simple dopesness of Sixx-Two's verse on "Xxplosive". He doesn't have any verses like that (that i've heard). It seems like he went way out of his way to make his rhyme schemes are very intricate.

If he would've put some of these feelings into this album, I might like it more than I do. I listened to his joint and I don't feel anything. He's doing a good job rhyming words and telling a story, but it's just like somebody facutally telling you what they did that day - it doesn't really move you. And his voice didn't help.

But whatever, just my thoughts.

Still, he's got good taste, and I hope he gets bread, yada yada...

The Kast influence (specifically Dre 3K) on his album is evident so it is definitely a surprise to see no Kast at all.
