On some real shyt...no jokes

GKMC was damn near unanimously loved around my parts, I haven't seen everybody praise and bump an album since GRODT. Even OGs was feeling GKMC.
shyt was just good man beats/lyrics/concept, it just spoke to people I guess.

...but I never really heard white people outside of the internet praise Kendrick like ya'll say they do. All the white people I interact with only fukk with turn-up/trap/trill (you can say ignorant) rap.

Also I really like that the album is named "To pimp a butterfly". Its a play on "to kill a mockingbird". I think its one of the BEST album names imo.

For those who think its "corny", you're only to simple minded too grasp what it means. I interpreted it as butterfly=blacks and the pimping=government/white supremacy/corporation. Blacks being beautiful and creative as a butterfly and then here comes the government/corporations exploiting blacks in the name of white supremacy. Thus "to pimp a butterfly".

This is why I am a big fan of Kendrick. Not just because of his music, but because I LOVE trying to decipher his words/meanings. Its like trying to decipher hieroglyphics. Its fun. For those who dont understand it AT ALL, just shows Kendrick Lamar is NOT for the average Hip Hop listener, especially some of those on Coli.

dude sounds like he was depressed as fukk by fame until the Trayvon Martin case turned it into pure anger.
:mjcry:

also talks about struggling to be comfortable around white people due to growing up never being around non-police whites.

yaap i heard that too

I think Kendrick went into detail on the whole To Pimp a Butterfly concept with the verse he did on The Colbert Report

A piece of mines
That's what the white man wanted when I rhymed
Telling me that he selling me just for $10.99
I go platinum from rapping, I do the company fine
What if I compromise? He said it don't even matter
Make a million or more, you living better than average
You losing your core following, gaining it all
Put a price on my talent, I hit the bank and withdraw

Hit the bank and withdraw, hit the bank and withdraw
Put myself in the rocket ship and I shot for the stars
Tell me what you accomplished and what he said to the boy
I'mma make you some promises that you just can't ignore
Your profession anonymous as an artist
I don't target your market
You ain't signing your signature when I throw you my wallet
A lot of rappers are giving their demo all in the toilet
World tour, your masters, mortgage, I need ya

everyone was talking about how deep sing about me/dying of thirst was...money trees and maad city was getting alot of play in the hood..

Once again just like how i was the first in this thread to say the title i was the first to put the tracklist also...again no daps or reps :beli:

:blessed: its so refreshing to get an album in rap with limited features and that does not have 11 people on a record..

as i said before from looking at the titles on the alleged tracklisting this really seems like a more coherent version of lauryn hill unplugged with better production....

the album is gonna be deep as hell....

im curious as to how that george clinton song is gonna be...

Do you guys have ideas on what we should do in the next week to help promote the album? We can't talk about iggy azalea and macklemore and then contribute by not supporting him and having him only sell like 200 thousand....

breh - you really needed to "decipher" that? There is nothing clever or hidden about the album title. You can't pimp a butterfly, so it's obviously a euphemism. All of Kendricks content is about the black struggle. Butterflies are a universal symbol of positive change or transformation due to their life cycle.

1+1 = 2. It's really not that deep.
