Nah. Being clever just to be clever suggests a lack of purpose. All of the songs and metaphors are moving in one direction for sure.

Separate yourself from the hype breh. It's just a record, it shouldn't irritate anyone. :ld:
"clever for being clever" was the wrong expression to use. what i should have said is, the fact that it's clever doesn't mean it sounds good or doesn't automatically make it good. i feel like a lot of people are saying "it's great because it's clever".

at the end of the day, i didn't like the sound of it, other people did, it's all good though, i'm still checking for the next one cause if there's one thing about kendrick, he doesn't do the same album twice. Kendrick will keep evolving and as long as he has the courage to keep doing him, he'll be good.

:what:

I put people that didn't even listen to Kendrick on the album by telling them that it had George Clinton, Robert Glasper and Lalah Hathaway on it.

So what.

You mean the people YOU know aren't messing with it. Outside of that there's really no way to know what the "general consensus" is. Reviews don't count either.

Just to add this album sold more than GKMC first week. It was released a few weeks ago, second week numbers are still good so that would mean people are checking for it, listening to it.

There is a way to tell how people are listening to an album, with social media, going outside and just being around people that are always listening to hiphop.

It sold so much because it was one of the most hyped/anticipated releases in hiphop history and he gained a lot of fans from GKMC that were ready to hear some new Kendrick after the long hiatus.

I feel you man. Critics and hipsters applaud albums for being clever and not for the content, that's why I haven't read a single review.

I like the sound. The funk on King Kunta makes me dance, that dragging sound on u effects me deeply, those chords on How Much a Dollar Cost make me nod my head and listen.

If you don't feel that, cool. I just wish the rest of the Booth could express their opinion intelligently and respectfully, like you've done. :snoop:

lol@ "general consensus" :mjlol:

Hasn't been one bad review of this album that I know of.

because Interscope does a good job of making sure every single outlet you would come across as a youngin is covered with glowing reviews. It's great marketing. It also helps that this album is tailor made for old cacs to enjoy, so obviously they're raving about it.

But if you look online, there are lots of bad/not favorable reviews. Either from here on the Coli or websites:

I don't give a fukk about reviews, but how you can consider your negative opinion "general consensus" when it's one or two negative reviews and a handful of trash Coli posters vs the word of every other reputable reviewer of hiphop in America? :mjlol: Log off breh, take a nap or some shyt.

Yet here you are, violently responding to a review I posted in response to someone else that wasn't you, lol. So clearly you give a fukk.

I never said my opinion, or even the opinion of 'dissenters' is general consensus. What I'm trying to say is that there are more 'dissenters' than you think, and that marketing hype has a way of distorting what we consider to be general consensus. It's one of the oldest forms of propaganda, and that is 'the bandwagon approach'. It implies that you should be on the train because everyone else is already on the train.

I don't think people understand just how miniscule they are in comparison to the rest of the world. The opinions of your friends/aquaintances, and the people you follow on social media can't give you an accurate barometer on what a general consensus is on anything. If you were a celebrity maybe you might be connected to a large enough segment of the population to speak to what a general consensus is but even then it would be a small percentage of the whole. Hence why when coli nikkas say "this song is a hit, I heard it blasting from a bunch of whips in my hood:wow:" it doesn't matter when said song doesn't even chart. Your personal experience is just that, personal. Don't speak for other nikkas

Doesn't mater. General consensus is positive. @CrimsonTider claimed it isn't, you tried to back them up. Don't back track, stand by something or pipe down. :skip:

Doesn't mater. General consensus is positive.

Look at this desperate-for-validation ass nikka.

First of all, it's way too early to determine what the consensus is on this album across all hip hop fans. It just came out. Repeat after me: IT JUST CAME OUT. Most people are still reacting to the album. Others, like myself, haven't even heard it yet.

Internet reviews is NOT general consensus, no matter how much you wish it was. Because a) the internet doesn't always reflect real life and b) the internet is a vast fukking place. You mean to tell me you've read every single comment on TPAB ever posted online and the vast majority are positive?

You have to be specific with these statements or you look stupid. Are you talking about general consensus ONLINE, among known internet bloggers/authorities? Then yes, you're absolutely right.

When were you going to listen to it?:mindblown: Why have you been talking so much shyt about something you ain't even play yet?:mindblown: What the fukk is wrong with you?:mindblown:

People aren't as minuscule as you think when it comes to rap opinions. You can't definitely tell what the large majority of rap fans are feeling and what they are not.

Even with this album, as much as people talk about the brilliance of it and other shyt. There are only 3 songs that are really mentioned on here about the album.

If anyone made this album it would be pegged as mediocre but when you have people hungry for new music from a great artist because his last shyt came out 3 years ago you get this propped up because it has last.

Just wait until the wave of excitement of this album wears off in a week or two.

All this is coming from someone that loves Section 80 and GKMC he just missed a lot on this album and it was all in the effort of trying to be different.

Man, why do you keep trying to tell people why they like something?
They feel it because they feel it

You realize it's no different from stans trying to say people don't like it because of whatever bullshyt reason they cooked up in their head.

And that "if anybody else made this album" bullshyt is really just you trying to speak for everyone else which is exactly what dude was talking about. You don't have any way of knowing that.

Artists resonate with different people for different reasons. That's it that's all. Stop trying to rationalize why people like something and you don't , you are not them.

I'm not telling people why they like it but, why this album is getting propped is pretty obvious but it happens with any thing that is well hyped.
