He's a lot more involved than many rappers IMO.
And this is what puts bro above so many different cats.

Kendrick produces, composes and writes (not just lyrics) for others as well,

Kendrick is indeed a musician and has been praised for that for years. He's not someone that just "rap" or "perform", he's heavily involved in the musical composition of his albums

For the record, Kendrick was an exec producer (under the "Oklama" alias) on Mr Morale, and worked on actual beats on the black panther & UU albums (not always under his kendrick lamar name though)

Some of the songs are also mainly produced by him, with help from sounwave.
There were plenty of behind the scenes footages of kendrick making some beats and playing the actual instruments...

Kendrick has always done that, sometimes he just exec produces, sometimes he literally makes the beats
