I remember when TPAB dropped and besides Kendrick, Terrence Martin got the majority of the press/credit for the album’s overall sound. He’s credited as writer and producer on 8 tracks. After all the hype for that album he should’ve been cashing ALL THE WAY OUT. NOBODY should’ve been able to get him in the studio without agreed upon compensation from the jump.
Don’t these artists have managers who are supposed to take care of this type of shyt?
Exactly, he was seemingly instrumental to that album. To not really see anything off it is fukked up and I genuinely expected better from Kendrick (if that's who he is talking about mainly).
I feel like maybe rappers came to him for certain sounds/feels and then went to producers to try to make it a lot easier for them to rap to, if that makes sense. I feel like very few rappers could genuinely work with that sound and craft something amazing from it, but a lot of nikkas will go for that sound but a lot more traditional.
Overall a fukked up situation and another shining example of why doing anything for "exposure" mainly will never work in your favor unless it's things like Jonah Hill taking a pay cut to work with scorcese BC he would still be prevalent and reap benefits, leading to wolf of walk Street
But in music, that shyt never seems to work out like that. The most you should ever do is lower rates to work with an up and coming artist you see potential in, but still get credited, be prominent and eat.
