I don't think it's an excuse at all.

It's well known that people who have experienced trauma are more likely to inflict trauma upon others later. It's a harsh human reality.

R. Kelly is in prison, and in the meantime we as a society are supposed to do our best to prevent future trauma from being inflicted upon others to stop the cycle.

If it’s not excuse then what is it? R Kelly has shown no remorse, no regret or contrition towards his victims at all. It’s nit like he is using his money to correct his wrongs. its not like it’s an isolated incident in which the law would show mercy. Dudes a serial predator. Kendrick low key giving that man a pass. But it’s funny how the rest glossed over the we cry together and the use of Kodak lol.

The guy spent time in his album whining about people expecting him to do the work, only for him to make a half as gesture at the first opportunit, in a Christ like image with a crown of thorns worth thousands of dollars. Dude just seems confused to me.

now what's your gripe about the song and kodak? the song is a mutual argument, women don't have rights to win an argument :skip:
and kodak did his time.doing his time as the laws in this country allow for. so it's his legal right to be where he is at doing whatever he does.
if you don't like the record just say that but trying to contradict it toward a call for women's rights doesn't make sense. criminals have rights just like women. he clearly sticks up for everybody rights. it's you who is picking and choosing.

I think i figured out the whole meaning behind the crown and the whole album in general
So kendrick has been receiving a lot of hate recently for wearing the crown of thorns by people who think he claims to be jesus or the messiah. Something he said at glastonbury stuck out to me, he said he wrote the album because we’ve all got our own issues in our lives that we’re dealing with. he also said he wears the crown in remembrance of one of the greatest prophets of all time so we can walk in his footsteps. He then repeatedly said “they judged christ, they judged you” and it hit me. the whole album and the crown of thorns is about how people are so quick to judge others and point out each other’s faults, that we are blinded by our own. that’s why kendrick places such significance in the mirror, it’s a provides a harsh truth about ourselves and reveals our flaws to us but it can also be an opportunity for us to fix them and become better people. kendrick is wearing the crown to show how quick people are to judge, they say he’s blasphemous but really they’re just proving his point and i think he has intentionally done this. another thing that stuck out to me was when he said imperfection is beautiful, to me that means we can try to fix ourselves and we can but we can never truly become the perfect human as christ was according to the bible, but by following in his footsteps we can become better versions of ourselves. i think it’s important to note that while kendrick may be a christian, i don’t think he’s a follower of the church since on auntie diaries he mentions the day he chose humanity over religion. i think at this point kendrick is in a state of accepting people and loving thy neighbour though he finds it difficult whoever they are in contrast to the church who are notoriously judgemental.

To even suggest such a thing is an excuse and shows empathy to Robert Kelly. There are Plenty of people who are abused that do not go on to abuse others, particularly under age children. For an artist with his platform and magnitude to even suggest his abuse lead to who he became is irresponsible and unsympathetic to those victims. Then mention Oprah in the next bar as to put the two on the same plane. Smh
He didn't use it as an excuse. He asked whether R Kelly being a victim of abuse led him to abuse. Which tends to be the case and is examined/studied academically and medically. Noting that the abused sometimes become the abuser in no way suggests they should be excused. If anything it highlights the importance of preventing abuse.

If you want to shyt on the Kodak stuff I'm with you 100%. But there was nothing wrong with what Kendrick said about Kelly.
