Bro, I've literally have seen a bunch of posters in the past few days trying to tell people that Lupe is better than Kendrick because of his "technical" abilities yet these be the same dudes shyttin on dudes saying Eminem is the best because of his "technical" abilities :russ:

Can these nerds make it even more clear that they're just jealous Kendrick is getting the love that they want Lupe to have? :russ:

Ol bitter ass geek nikkas:dead:
I know when im listening to music with the intention of being moved by it I always look to an artist that is adept at the technicality of it. Not soul, not rhythm, no, not the intangible shyt that just makes you go:ahh: I look for someone who's technical abilities are proficient:rudy:

Holocast from The Black Knights is one of my favorite emcee, one of the most abstract, esoteric, poet in hip hop, but that nikka sometimes have me like :mindblown:

So y'all nerdy nikkas can't tell me shyt, I'm a hip hop junkie

When it comes down to it, you have to reach a nikka. That's why Pac the Victor in the battle with Biggie.

Pac said this peep how we do it, this is penitentiary steel not a freestyle battle..that verse right there had even underground heads open

This thread is weird as hell. Lupe is not that complicated he just has a lot of entendres.

This is what happens with rap fans when they are spoiled. Lupe is great because he uses more than the handful of words that most rappers know.

As for storytelling Lupe has that too. Kendrick does songs in a character's perspective and does it alright, nothing amazing.

Meanwhile Lupe on Put you on Game. He Say, She Say, Prisoners. :mjcry:

Saying he's too lyrical is a lazy excuse to broadstroke him out of rapping. You can tell who actually listened to a Lupe album in here and who didn't.

You’re not going to get too many objective opinions in here.

Lupe’s last project was literally his most simplistic piece of work from a lyrical and conceptual standpoint.

Out of Lupe’s 5 main albums from F&L to T&Y and Drogas Light which is essentially a compilation, only 1 album displays these super dense, heavily abstract songs and that’s Tetsuo. And half of Tetsuo is easily digestible.

The abstract, overly complex angle is a copout in my opinion. They’re better off arguing about Lupe’s shortcomings when it comes to lackluster production and corny, cringeworthy hooks, and overall trash songs on his middle albums like Lasers and F&L 2. That’s valid criticism to me.

This is an area where Kendrick has excelled in and Lupe has faltered in more recent times. Kendrick has surrounded himself with some of the best producers and musicians in the business. Every project has focus, direction, and is carefully thought out with him having full creative control. This is why when you compare Kendrick’s work to Lupe’s within the past, say, 10 years (2007/2008 to current) Kendrick is winning that debate easily. People quickly forget what you are capable of when you release mediocrity/bad music for consecutive years like Lupe did in that 2011-2013 stretch.

T&Y was a step in the direction we wanted to see because the production was the most focused it’s been for a whole project in years and the choruses are amazing :wow:

His music has become lifeless and his stans are deifying him solely on how lyrically dense his verses are, not how good his music actually is. I don't care how many obscure references or literary tools he may pack into a verse, it just doesn't move me or sound good to me.
This is different than saying Kendrick is more lyrical. And y'all ran away from that as if people have never debated bars. Y'all love that when it k.dot versus Sean but whatever.

I used to be the biggest Lupe Fiasco fan. Seeing what he's become genuinely hurts my heart:mjcry:Lupe was loved back then for the same reason Kendrick is loved now: there was soul and emotion flowing through his music. He Say She Say is literally the same verse twice but from different perspectives. Not the most lyrically dense track, no need to dig deeper than surface level, but real and relatable as hell. Yet Lupe could make a Theme Song to a Driveby and drop world class bars, triple entendres, while still making sure the music took prominence. After The Cool, all this nikka cared about was being lyrical for the sake of being lyrical. The lyrics stopped being a conduit for transcendent music and became an avenue for dude to show just how complex he could rhyme words together. I used to love deciphering Lu tracks because the songs were genuinely enjoyable to listen to in the first place. Now it's a just a case of deciphering it to show you got what the nikka was saying. I listened to Switch and Failure because they're dope songs and catching different similes, extended metaphors, and technical experimentation was icing on the cake. Now I'm playing dude's albums backwards under the light of a full moon because there's a hidden bar that only fans of Yu Yu Hakusho(subbed not dubbed) will get the reference to. I think I remember this guy hyping one of his upcoming songs by claiming how simple it would make one of his previous lyrical for the sake of being lyrical songs sound as opposed for how good the song was in general. You add to all of this his change in delivery, increasingly worsening ear for production, and altogether soulless music and it's crazy to think the guy you were listening to on the mixtapes thru The Cool is the same guy you're listening to after it.
This is very true. He got so offended by the Lasers backlash that he went all the way left. The label ruined him and his ego won't see it.

Wait who said Kendrick was more lyrical? :heh:

We can't discuss bars serious when you got nikkas on here telling me Young Thug got more bars than Tupac.

Discussing lyricism is waste of time on here. Nothing but bias and brain dead arguments.

Nobody ran away from anything. Its just pointless to continue to engage at times. You Lupe stans biggest issue is that you have a warped definition of what potent lyricism is and what are the most important aspects of a great MC is. Why continue to talk lyricism with a person who implies that some pseudo intellectual, abstract lines by Lupe is more potent writing than something like Swimming Pools or a Dear Mamma by Pac?

nikka's in here moving the goal post, kendrick is a better MC, lupe is a better Lyricist.

It's THAT simple.

Lupe said he didn't think kendrick was a top tier lyricist, and he's not.

Doesn't mean kendrick is trash or bad lyrically he's just not a top tier one, he's a great but bar for bar he's not seeing the greatest lyricist.

All this other talk is irrelevant

For ever 1 Lupe song I really like there are 3 or 4 kendrick songs I really like.... Doesn't change the fact that Lupe>>>>him lyrically and Kendrick>>>>> hit maker and song wise.

Lupe has songs like that in his catalog.

Not as iconic as Dear Mama, of course tho

We getting somewhere, but when it comes to a battle Kendrick got more in his bag, he's an EMCEE not just a lyricist, he will get Lupe. Emcee is a Master of the Ceremony, Move the Crowd. It's lyrics, wordplay, emotion, reaching the listener, moving the listener, telling a story, flow, cadence, emotion, delivery, paint a picture and exposing weakness, Kendrick will tear Lupe ass up

I really tried to get into Tetsuo & Youth. I liked Food & Liquor 2 somewhat (though I feel it shouldn't have been called F&L2) and from the early reviews of T&Y thought he was back to the seemingly otherworldly ability he had to make relatable, meaningful music while simultaneously delivering layered, complex, unparalleled lyrics. Trust, I realize how crazy it is to expect that of any artist, but he'd already done it and I saw no reason he couldn't do it again. But to me, T&Y, while boasting much improved production, would be better appreciated read on a page than listened to through headphones. Or recited acapella in URL battles rather than listened through headphones. A guy who had nothing to prove to anyone when it came to lyricism became completely absorbed by proving how lyrical he is.

So do I think Lu is hating on Kendrick? Absolutely not. Lupe thinks he's superior lyrically, and he is. But there seems to be a disconnect where people are assuming crowning Kendrick as the best rapper means he's being crowned the best of every category of rapping. Just like conversely, crowning Lupe the best lyricist doesn't mean he's the best rapper.

Then of course there's the age old debate over the word lyrical/lyricist/lyricism in general, and that's never going to end.
