Lupe has three platinum singles.
2 gold albums.
That's it.
Show Goes On did go Triple Plat though :ehh:
nice cherry picking breh.

course deck has more memorable joints than lupe. hes in wutang clan. but yall dissing him like hes garbage just wrong. deck got no solos worth a damn, lupe does. lupe is a more advanced writer like rakim was a more advanced writer. idk what yall even getting at anymore. eberyone was biggin up ra for his "writing techniques" back in the day cause he was head and shoulders above teh rest. lupe is head and shoulders above MOST emcees, especially the ones of today

since when dont we judge mcs on storytelling ability, multi ability, cadences, flows, etc. cuz someone labled it a "literary device" that means its different? yall for real? noone talked about rakims ability? really? really breh? how else can ones writing be judged if its not judged by the standards of WRITING? we aint in the 90s anymore brehs. and no offense, we were all maybe 5-13 years of age at that time at that...

i already said id take wtf deck over lupe anyday but yall saying shyt like cause yall dont like lupe that means he dont use same techniques as nas when lu is a nas stan n sharked him hard. nothing yall saying is making any sense.

and let me repeat this cause yall missing the point. this thread is about LYRICISM. kenny and deck are more enjoyable mcs to me than lupe. but to not give lupe his props lyrically because you think hes wack in other places is just wrong.

i appreciate the work dude puts into nhis craft. period. i didnt think i had to say i woudl rather listen to a wu album full of deck verses over lupe anyday but apparently i do.

well cole doesn't have a control verse it all started there. he had fire response to it btw. why lupe is still bringing a 5 year old verse that's the reason i say he's bitter. now where are these constant ripoffs, some artwork with stars on it for a song called all the stars?. see cosigning logic who openly steals from kendrick and plenty others throws that argument out the window.
Ok I can see that. I think its more about “rap politics” than lupe being jealous of Kendrick’s fame. Kendrick talked big shyt on control, left of Lupe lol, and kendrick has been ducking lupe and every rapper who went at him for control since.

Kinda like meek/drake. Meek was never mad about drake’s success... it was about drake not writing his own shyt.

But these days, rap politics dont matter, only the numbers. Fake is real as long as you hot.

Far as ripping off? Ill just say kung fu kenny for starters. You can piece the rest if you want.

im actually suprised you dont like lu as id figure hes right up yur alley.

Yeah, I'm surprised that @Billy Ocean errs on this side of a Kendrick vs. Lupe debate considering the other stuff he champions. And this is coming from someone who thinks Lupe is overrated on this board. I agree that sometimes Lupe is overly dense, but at least he's the real deal. Kendrick is even more guilty of being too wordy without saying anything.

This conversation jumped the shark real quick :snoop:

I’m a huge fan of both rappers and I can easily say that Lupe is the better rapper but Kendrick is currently a better artist. It’s not really that hard to digest tbh. Anyone that thinks Lupe is wack is intentionally being obtuse.

And the whole “we don’t care about literary techniques” angle is the kind of shyt that prevents rap from getting the respect it properly deserves. These guys are out here putting words together better than a lot of the historically celebrated poets but they’ll never get their respect if we keep them in the “Just shut up and rap” box.

im saying. know dudes a huge nas fan. hes acting like cuz he thinks lupe is wack as an mc , as a person.. whatever. that means he dont do the same shyt nas do. lupe is a nas shark. lyric wise he is to nas what nas was to rakim.

all cuz dudes lyrically gifted dont mean hes the best musician. i never said that but homie going for peoples throats mixing the two together. kendrick is overrated as a lyricist but hes more than capable at everything else for sure... but to say lupe isnt a nice writer? like i said, ya gotta be deaf. dude talking like deck is in everyones top 20s...i thought i was the ONLY ONE bumping deck the past 18 years

This isn't true tho.

Kick Push which gained national attention and radio play wasn't even supposed to be on an album. Soundtrakk produced that record, Atlantic really had nothing to do with it.

Soundtrakk and Matthew Santos are in-house 1st & 15th artist.

They let Lupe do what he wanted with The Cool. Hence why Dumb It Down, of all songs, was the first single. Then the same trio that did album cuts on Lu's first album like American Terrorist churned out Superstar, which became a hit.

The song had a perfect mix of lyrics, production, and accessibility for radio. Outside of marketing (which they're supposed to do for their artists) y'all give the label too much credit. Lupe is an exceptional songwriter.

Yeah Atlantic smashed it out the park with later hits they gave to Lupe, but they could've let him continue to make his own successful records without dividing his fanbase.

That song blew up (aka white people loved it) because they thought it was all about skateboarding. Atlantic's involvement with one record hardly proves they were wrong about Lazers. That was a very successful record. As much bytching as was put into it and excuses made by Lupe stans, it's a solid album :yeshrug:

Lupe, like Nas, could have a better ear for beats. Exceptional lyricists that still make good music in spite of but could still benefit from other people helping them pick beats.
