deck was part of the greatest collective of all time. its an unfair comparison because they are two different artists. one is a solo artisyt, the other is a legendary mc who as part of a 9 man crew gets the props for the entire thing, for better or worse.

his solo album was mediocre. i think we can all agree with that. can you name ONE deck song you can spit off ya head from passed 10 years? one czarface song?

lupe writes a variety of different songs. simple ones. complex ones. deep ones. emotional ones. etc. is he the best mc? not even close but lyrically if you have no respect for him, your deaf or a hater.

That song blew up (aka white people loved it) because they thought it was all about skateboarding. Atlantic's involvement with one record hardly proves they were wrong about Lazers. That was a very successful record. As much bytching as was put into it and excuses made by Lupe stans, it's a solid album

Lupe, like Nas, could have a better ear for beats. Exceptional lyricists that still make good music in spite of but could still benefit from other people helping them pick beats.

Which album was better in the long run for his career tho, The Cool or Lasers?

The Cool had the hits and built upon his already steadily growing fan base. It was a perfect balance of Lupe’s artistic vision and mainstream success.

Lasers had the hits but divided his fan base because the original product was scrapped and replaced with pop filler.

The big hit chasing sound isn’t sustainable when it comes to longevity of a career.

Lupe’s best selection was perfect for him early in his career until Atlantic started fukking up the process. It’s no wonder how Tetsuo & Youth had the best selection of beats he had for a full album since The Cool, Atlantic was forced to lay off of holding his album hostage.

"That lyrical shyt is wack" is just another way for people who don't have any talent to take part in the genre.There was a time when actual talent was needed and served as a natural sieve so that Hip hop wasn't oversaturated...You actually had to be nice.
Now since anybody thinks they can do the same wack shyt that's on the airwaves,everybody and they mother "raps".No more natural quality control because nobody is praising actual skills.
