media hype

white rap fans love to tell yall what to think

bruh, you got people in here saying "well rolling stone says so" or "this headphone brand says so"

I mean good god. The media has created both Kendrick and J Cole's hype...people are NOT bumping his shyt like that in the real world.

But hey, ya'll love to let media curate tastes.

Kendrick has no classics. Good albums, sure.

Classics? HELL no.

Sounds like you're talking about Drake in these posts :sas2:

A classic is something that's timeless that you can listen to time and again.

How many people truthfully listened to TBAB after the first (cacophonous) listen or few days?:jbhmm:

Right, no one. Truthfully.

So yes, by that metric, he certainly has no classics.

And high reviews don't mean shyt. Cacs love (pseudo intellectual) poverty porn and that's exactly what Kendrick's music has become. He's also very deferential to cacs in his personal life.

I think GKMC is a very good record but short of classic. TPAB is one of the best musical album's I've heard in any genre in maybe the last decade. You can't modernize the West Coast soundscape and not be considered a classic. Kendrick and the producers took all the best elements of maybe 50 or so years of Black music, condensed it, layered it, and put it back out, and while Kendrick is not the best pure spitta in the world, the lyrics were thoughtful, poetic and well done

an album that influenced the likes of David Bowie, Prince and Herbie Hancock is definitely a classic. Not to mention it's also the most acclaimed album of the decade by both critics and listeners.

What listeners?:jbhmm:

How can people have an opinion on something that they don't listen to?:patrice:

I been around hip hop my whole life but i'm not seeing this shyt ya'll talking about. TPAB got like 2 or 3 non skippable joints on there for me. A classic? Nah. GKMC closer to one and even then i wouldn't call it a classic. You nikkas oversaturate that word on here a lot.

I really think the climate he dropped that album in with some of the subject content and social commentary put the battery in a lot of you young dudes backs when it come to giving it a classic tab.

I agree with OP. AND I listen to many different genres. As albums, they are not classics. He is experimental and I think it hurts the songs when he tries to do too much, and subsequently affects the albums. He also gets drowned out by the music too much, which I don't understand because his vocals turned up would sound better. His hooks also throw songs off. His albums are tough listening experiences.

Let's see if we get a Kendrick stan to respond to this directly without deflecting and crying. Though they'll avoid your post altogether

Now you on the elitist shyt.....Yes some of us knows about Young Giants (Kasami Washington Jazz Band from High School) Rocking out with Thundercat when he was in a Metal Band, Robert Glasper, Flying Lotus when he was a Dilla Disciple Terrace Martin, Shafiq Husayn (A Free Ka, Classic Album) all from the same circle for many years....Terrace Martin is the common denominator, a damn good jazz musician himself who merged Jazz and West Coast Gangsta Rap damn near 10 years ago

JD Allen ~ Americana
Freddie Hendrix ~ Jersey Cat
Jeremy Pelt ~ Jive Culture

Nice jazz albums from 2016

TPAB is a Classic Album, Classic Black Music to it's core....Because True Black Music can't be labeled....A Hip Hop album can be a Blues Album, A Jazz Album can easily turn into a Soul Album, A Gospel Album can turn into a Funk Album, that's why people can't grasp TPAB because they don't understand Black Music

:laff:

This is the biggest load of bullshyt I've read all day. I wouldn't even be surprised if you're not Black but pretending to be one for online love.

That is true :wow:

Besides Kanye, kendrick is like the only rapper that knows how to master them bebop scales, altered scales, syncopation, polyrhythms, shifting keys and musical ideas that them other rappers don't know anything about

:laff:

You Kanye stans are something else.

Like I said, Kendrick is the new Kanye when it comes to hyperbolic bullshyt.

Bruh, ya'll love letting other people make your opinions for you.

:dead:

Herbie likes it cause its jazz and funk influenced.

Thats it.

You act like Herbie would also give YG's first album a classic ranking. Similar themes, right?

Oh, but when it comes to live instruments yall start creaming your pants.

Kendrick stans when someone displays independent thought:
