Being dark skinned hurt her mostly with the Black female audience if anything. The average Black woman would rather look like Beyonce than Kelly and vicariously live through her. Even if Kelly did actually have Black women's support she probably still wouldn't be as big as Beyonce but at least she would have a stronger Black female fan-base than Beyonce and they would have to make more Kelly's simply because there would be a market for it.

For the record people do know Beyonce is not light skinned right? She was damn near the same complexion as Jay-Z before they lighten her up.
