It's hard to say how much being somewhat darker (I don't even think she is that dark) held her back, but I believe it probably played an role.
Bring up outliers like Lauren Hill and Missy don't negate the overall point that too many people have been brainwashed to believe dark skin is less than. The funny thing is a lot of dudes get defensive when they get called out on it. Nobody want to admit they might be brainwashed so they will come up with every reason why they are not.
