Riri slid into the lane Aaliyah left open. Those three albums weren't just any regular three albums either.I don't know how anyone could conclude that Kelis had next. She made some great music with The Neptunes and even with other producers when she branched out on Kelis Was Here.
I don't know if I agree with Aaliyah having next either. She was 7 years removed from her debut and three albums deep by the time she passed. Pretty much had a full career by the time she died. Far from a new artist who would have next.
Kelis still had a sound though. She spent her career as a slept on talent.
I'm not measuring by sales. I'm measuring by sound.my favorite album by kelis is Kelis was Here, and that was after she left neptunes, Tasty had a lot more producers than the neptunes, and yet on both she still had a "sound". and just because you have a producer you work with doesn't mean you as an artist don't decide your sound. part of kelis's failure as an artist is because she was eclectic, you could get punk/rock, pop, and soul from her on one album, that didn't work back then except for white artists
Some of yall just measuring her by sales, that's fine, but as a female who was still in the "impressionable" phase, Kelis was a whole style to us, that doesn't mean everyone loved her music (she was also inconsistent AF with singles), but in the same way women fukked with these Hot Girl and Savage moments (rih's savage, not meg's), we fukked with Milkshake/Bossy, there just was no social media to amplify it
to be fair Pharrell came up in the studio with GOATs who were like that with each other as wellPharrell is no joke in the studio, so I really don't doubt he's said or done something that made Kelis see him differently. Madonna talked about how Pharrell made her cry during a session because he was making her redo vocals and wasn't exactly nice about it. She talked about how he had these Mickey Mouse slippers on and he wasn't really feeling her vocals and was pretty harsh with her bringing her to tears.
if you're going to write off every artist's sound and musical direction as just being the product of the person who made the track, then outside of the singers who produce, none of them have a soundRiri slid into the lane Aaliyah left open. If both of y'all said they stole her swag/style a bit I'd give you that, but not sound. Her albums were eclectic, but any songs y'all can't point to that someone else might be similar to isn't her sound. Milkshake is Neptune's sound. Bossy is Bangladesh's sound. Just in this example she's being wild towards Beyonce it's Milkshake which are Neptune's drums. If we're being really real In Search of.... did a much better job of doing what she tried to do with her albums in terms of sonic diversity.
If I'm missing something then what song is Kelis' sound? She was the one who screamed on tracks. That was her shyt......and I don't know what that other cat was talking about. I'd listen to her read the dictionary. I love her speaking voice.
only reason we know snoop is dr drethe only reason any of us know kelis name is because of Pharrell and chad
only reason we know snoop is dr dre
only reason we know aaliyah is r kelly
only reason we know the clipse/pusha t is because neptunes
only reason we know biggie is because of diddy
we can keep doing that...
nikkas been complaining about diddy, suge, irv, birdman etc. for fukking them over...sit down. lol @ kelis should be grateful to someone who fukked her over from the already limited money she would/could earn. And they all respect those people to the highest degree
And I’m sure they all had some misinformed deals/business at some point

All fukkery aside, I peeped the 'Energy' song by Beyonce that is supposed to have a sample of the Kelis 'Get Along With You' track. I could not hear anywhere in the track where there could possibly be a sample of it? Am I just too flabby and sick to notice an intricate/filtered/stretched/chopped sample of it somewhere or something? I'm wild confused.
Real talk, I seen the vid of Kelis talking about this shyt... what a fukking nightmare that chick must be. She talk super-uppity and snooty...and sounds like a major bytch overall. Nas must've been in hell when he was with her. Imagine the shyt you would have to put up with... and even more so when she on her monthly!! Word to Fredo that's a SCARY SIGHT.Pretty sure it's some drums that were sampled at the end of the song, which would make Kelis rant even more stupid.
