Nah, he'll be a good defender but there are currently 3 elite level young big men on defense, with Brow, Nerlens and Gobert, then a tier below that you have a gang of dudes.

I don't think he's going to be an elite defender in the NBA, he'll be a good one but playing next to WCS helps him a lot.

You don't think Whiteside is an elite level big men on defense?

I have a feeling if we do get to pick first overall, Phil will draft Okafor but we need Towns.... :ohlawd:
Either way I'll be happy :manny:
But what if we draft Towns and sign Marc Gasol in July :ohhh:........... Wait.... What? :krs:
Towns at the 4 and Gasol at the 5 :krs:

:blessed:

Do it Phil :shaq:
Been calling this since last year:shaq:

Center self, inner self
Okafor is in that Greg Monroe zone of can't really shoot, can't prtoect the rim.. I just don't see the #1 upside
I can tell you haven't watched many Duke games this year with a statement like that. Okafor has a really good midrange game and often uses backshots. Monroe never used either while in college.
Nas trying to find Ether on Tidal :skip:

I'm taking towns.. Boy will be a superstar.. Okafor is all Jefferson status

Honestly, he has a lot of similarities to Eddy Curry. Im not necessarily saying that in a bad way, but I think the comparison fits

If Okafor is dedicated and focused he can be a great scorer in the league
Okafor is the best offensive player to come into college since Kevin Durant. He will score in the league.
A comparison I've heard is Greg Monroe.

I haven't really followed college ball this year though
:snoop:
That's not fair to compare him to those 2 monsters lol.

I think Towns if he wants to can make a couple of NBA second team defense as long as Noel and Davis are not both listed at PF
Overrating Towns defensive ability big time.
I think people are overrating how great Karl Towns will be on defense, as well as how "bad" Okafor will be on defense.

And the reason behind it, is because they are essentially only getting judged against each other.
I agree. Okafor's problem is will and work ethic while on D. He will be fine with good coaching.

Eh, Okafor looks terrible on defense. I don't think its being overhyped at all

He might be OK putting a body during man to man, but other than that .. dude is a liability out there
COaching will fix that problem. You can coach D, but you can't coach O, esp not the elite level O that Okafor has.

said the exact same thing to a coworker today

Okafor on d is  and it probably wont get better from here on out

Not saying Towns is a defensive monster but he seems to be more in sync on that side of the floor and I can see his D getting better

pause :notinharlem:
Read my above post

Okafor is starting to remind me of sullinger at Ohio state the more I watch. I can't see him being a dominant center in the NBA or a sure fire franchise player at that position.

He's just not athletic enough or that big. But he's skilled. Still it's easy to dominate in college as a center. Not so much in the NBA.

Towns just looks like lakers Bynum out there sometimes, which is a good thing. And he seems to have a good head on his shoulders.

Kentucky track record is :wow:

Just wait how good he'll be in 2-3 years:blessed:

Dukes NBA track record is :patrice:
Ok so name a Uk player better than the best Duke player in the NBA. Stop perpetrating that misconception that was built on shyt from the 90s.

Yeah pretty much the only knock on his game is that he has no real motor, never expends any unnecessary effort, and it'll hold him back. Kinda similar to Dwight, even. Towns' diva attitude reports point to him being a whiner, which is just as bad.

I'd say though that you can't go wrong with drafting either, and if Towns can perform in the future similar to how he did against ND then he'll have the higher ceiling
This is what the bullshyt overrating in this thread is really about^ People watch that ND game and fail to realize that ND doesn't have size, and that Mike Brey refused to double Towns, which cost them the game. Towns is good, but going against those undersized guys doesn't make him some surefire can't miss prospect. Don't get me wrong, he and/or Okafor deserve to go number 1 in this class. I just think people are underrating Okafor and overrating Towns.

Okafor just plays like he gives no fukks about defense, and doesn't have that hunger on the boards. He gets a hand up and everything and he makes the right rotations but he doesn't have that killer in him that says "this is MY paint". That's on the court.

The Towns thing was reported earlier http://www.thecoli.com/threads/karl...-him-as-karl-kardashian.305632/#post-12796152

I think it has to do with age. These guys are 21-22 (with Gobert going on 23). Whiteside is a bit older being 25 going on 26 :manny:

Anthony Davis is like the 3rd best player in the entire NBA.

Cousins is the best center.

Before Kyrie dropped 55 most would say John wall> Kyrie.

It's not about Duke as much as it is kentucky players coming out with a certain confidence and high expectations

My thoughts exactly.

It's so obvious who's talking out there ass and who actually watches both these kids play too... Okafor will walk into the league being a top 5 big in the post offensively. Which is more of a knock on the league than it is to big up Okafor but still.... Between his size, his footwork and his soft hands (pause), the kid is the total package on the block.

Totally. Now is that what the knicks NEED? I dunno. Maybe they need Towns for the better rim protection... I'll be happy with either. I go back and forth.
