Lebron would have dominated in Kareem’s era, but there’s no doubt that Kareem would dominate in this era as well.
When it comes to basketball there are like maybe 5-6 names you can throw around in the greatest of all time discussion and it will likely depend on how old you are.
You can make a solid case for MJ, but I don’t think he’s the clear cut concrete GOAT. Because guys like Wilt and Russell were doing ungodly things long before he did and were so dominant they had to change the rules.
MJ was the clear cut best of his era though. When he was on top he had no equal. There’s not many guys you can say the same for.
Magic had Bird, Wilt had Russell, Shaq had Kobe/Duncan... MJ stood alone.
Lebron also stands alone if were being honest. Durant is close but he’s not on the same level.

Ill take this and expand more on it. NBA was bigs heavy before Mj hit the scene. KAJ took the dominant big man scheme and souped it up, which is impressive, but MJ created his own scheme where it is possible to build a dynasty around a guard.
If you told prime KAJ, Wilt, Russell, Malone, Walton, that a six time Finals six time finals MVP would be a SG without a dominant big you'd get laughed at and the

The story behind this picture is pretty fascinating. It came out of a book that BBC journo wrote about Tarzan. Kareem and Oscar Robertson were invited to visit Somalia by a black American diplomat ( and ex-Olympian) Mal Whitfield who was posted to Somalia in the 70s. They ran some basketball clinics and ended up playing in an exhibition game. The story is linked below.
