You started the thread though. WTF you talking about?

Why are you going through such lengths to take away from Ye's influence on high fashion and style in the black community?

What the fukk did Ye pioneer ?

and what the fukk has his style got to do with the black community, you lost me on that one.

By the way,

I personally don't consider Kanye to be a fashion icon and think his look borders on basic/ridiculous.
But there are people who think otherwise.

It's still pretty cool to be on the cover of GQ Magazine.

I can agree that there are certain pieces in the series of photos that I do like.
But the way they're all put together is not my cup of tea.

:manny:

Classic is classic for a reason.

I still think it's nice that Kanye got on the GQ cover.
His style just aint my style.

Those were my quotes in the thread.
Why are you so insulted that someone doesn't think Kanye is a fashion icon? And why are you trying to act like I'm taking some shyt away from the black community?

Grow up kid.
Everything aint a debate.

My original thread post asked the question if Kanye is a fashion icon.
You said your piece. I said mine.

Let that shyt be and move on.

I'm not insulted, I think its a lazy argument on your behalf.

Part of influence includes education.

Without Kanye LITERALLY no one else is mentioning those brands that he does.

NO. ONE.

Period.

The fact you even can reference brands you claim to not even be interested in is a result of Ye.

Before Ye, you weren't.

And I don't wanna hear that you were...because you weren't.

If its not for Ye even dropping a line here or there, seeing him rock a piece or two, or something else, you're NOT hearing about it.

In the black community, NO ONE ELSE is doing that.

The brands that Kanye supposedly mentions have been around for generations.
But he's setting those trends and putting them on the map now?

Around for gens? Sure. And what?
Just because they were around doesn't mean they're relevant.

Dudes like Ye make them relevant.

Aside from being vocal, he does a lot to tell the larger culture whats important and worth looking into.

No one was rocking Goyard on a mass level before Ye even mentioned that shyt.

I'm trying to tell ya'll how vast this man's influence is.

Still doesnt show what he pioneered yet alone him changing the black community.

There are number of hiphop artist who stake a bigger claim in being a fashion icon than kanye. some have been named in this thread.

What do you mean mean by pioneered? The man had sneakers, not unpopular, but HIGHLY DESIRED HIGH FASHION SNEAKERS with the biggest brands int hew world. Has collaborated with the largest and most elite brands in the world. Has literally breathed life into stagnant brands by mentioning them. Has influenced new designers to become relevant by simply name-dropping. etc.

This is bigger than hip hop. Ye's influence goes beyond street wear....that he even helped curate himself.

You're moving the goalposts.

This is the single best source I can find that outlines all the major parts of his fashion influence and you can fill in the rest using those as moorings.

No other black entertainer or talking head has that much relevance in the discussion of fashion or the creation and curation of that content.

There is no doubt Kanye loves fashion but he is no fashion icon, its like Jay-Z being a fashion icon by mentioning 'button ups' or 'tom ford' ... there is more to being a fashion icon than saying names.
