they ONLY situation where somethign like this may happen is if they change planes and the seating is not what it was on the original plane aka 3 rows in first class versus 5 so people have to get "downgraded" to coach. But you should get comped something nice if that happens.

...Came across my TT feed earlier in the comments several people reiterated it, maybe depends on the situation. Fukked up regardless.

We missed out on getting upgrade to first class on a flight back from Hawaii because of this. We were in comfort plus premium and they said we were getting upgraded. Then another flight attendant came and whispered to her and then they said we weren’t getting upgraded anymore.

Then I saw they gave at least one of the tickets to a pilot

yeah, wait a second; i've NEVER heard of this. and it doesn't even make sense that AA would do this to their highest paying customers or any airline. overselling 1st class tickets? downgrading people who paid first class? i've never heard that in my life. these companies value their rep with 1st class passengers far too much to pull some low-rent bullshyt like that

The way I see things is like this.

They're not going to announce to everyone on the plane that their poor practices is what resulted in someone with a first class ticket getting dropped to economy. They'll happily rely on people assuming that a Black man tried his luck.

He's right to kick up a fuss. It is the sort of thing they should profusely apologise either, as well as compensate, to ensure everyone on the plane knows it is their fukk up not his.
