You're saying justice league should do crazy numbers just cause of all the popular heroes. It doesn't work like that (comic sales also) when you have a bad reputation. Movie goers gave them their money and was fooled so a lot wasn't trying it again. That defenders is another (small) example and no I'm not comparing defenders to justice league

You don't understand business at this level clearly. ROI isn't looked at in a vacuum in the billion dollar business range. You use the high ROI off of your sure bets to cover the risks associated with your lower tier pursuits and projects. So when a killer app underperforms and only brings you a small amount of return instead of 100's of millions your budgeting equilibrium for the entire year is thrown out of whack. Studios do not look at the arithmetic 1 film at a time. They look at it in fiscal years. This is the biggest thing on their plate, and it flopped out of the gate and will be lucky to stay in the black. Geostorm, Kong, Arthur and BladeRunner underperformed... Those are supposed to be buoyed by Justice Leagues Billion+ dollar box office.

When that doesn't happen, the financials drag.

WB isn't doomed or anything. But the failure of this years tentpole film reverberates downstream. It will eat up all the supposed profits WonderWoman brought in AND some.

DC never even stood a chance in the movie race. They relied way to heavy on their Batman films. They should have tried their best to keep Christian Bales and incorporate the Dark Knight universe into the DC cinema universe. At least they could have made big bucks there.


But none of this matters because its over for them. DC characters just don't translate well on the big screen. Animated movies and TV shows? Sure. Big blockbuster live action films? Forget about it.

Because when Spiderman dropped and its OW was $117 instead of $130 or higher. Niccas was laughing and called that a flop.

Cats was like "bu bu bu bu bu but Marvel forced IM all in everyones faces in the trailers and couldnt get more than that so they failed, its a flop!"

And when it didnt make a billion they laughed harder and still rolled with that narrative that it was a flop.

At no point did they EVER wait till the movie wasnt playing in theaters anymore.

For GOTG2, cats called that a flop too and a nicca actually had the nerve to create a thread comparing the 10 day (and counting via updates at the time) sales total between that and SS and boasted about sales on a Tuesday.......... a fukking Tuesday

Back to the question, if SHC opening at $117M was a flop then. Explain to everyone how JL... a movie after WW with her, Superman, Batman, Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg at $93M isnt a flop now?
