They didn't necessarily show his friend outright killed. He looked to have been on an operating table where he was being butchered, which means he could've been under anesthesia while they was cutting him up. Also, since they already had his younger self, they wouldn't have even needed to have the older him come to their location, cuz they could've just killed the younger him immediately.
yooooooooo, i watched this film about and as subtle as it is implied...
it you can read between the lines, JOE was the ORIGINAL RAINMAKER! i knew his story and cid's story were TOO similar to be coincidence.
one of the question that stuck out of my mind was how the rainmaker 1st began, since the OLD joe and SID knew about the rainmaker PRIOR TO the events even happening. then, abe's conversation about him find joe when he was real young and brought him in because he knew it'll DRAMATICALLY alter joe's future was the 1st hint. being that abe was from the future, he knows whut will happen to joe and whut he would become, and in his personal opinion he "saved" him from that. then there's the conversation joe had with cid commenting how he had lost his mother, and how he held a grudge against the MOB and made a vow to seek and kill anyone related to that (similar to how CID would suppose end up doing), but was "saved" by abe and the looper organization. then in the end when joe REALIZED whut would happen and how things a person loses his mother, sits in the train alone holding a grudge at the ones who's responsible, loses a wife and how it's all a cycle...
this made me realize that JOE was the ORIGINAL rainmaker. ABE was brought back from the future, arguably to kill him, but instead brought him.. by soing that it ALTERS the future to where now the rainmaker is shifted to someone else, but still have JOE responsible in its creation.

thats what i thought at the end as well. but joe never had that telepathic shyt correct? wasnt he calling tacky in the beginning? so then how could he be the rainmaker when he never possessed those capabilities? like when the kid did the screaming and shyt?

Cid has powers tho. That was the whole point of the RAINMAKER. HE was doing shyt and could not be stopped because he was a mega TK. He was like a scarier Charles Xavier. Joe was just a regular guy. I can get the idea about Joe raising hell in the future. shyt, Joe may have been Cid's rival, but Cid is the Rainmaker.
Well, it's implied that what we were watching wasn't an ORIGINAL timeline for starters. 2nd, we also witnessed Old Joe wipe out an ENTIRE LOOPER ORGANIZATION DISTRICT in just 10 MINUTES by himself. If he's capable of going that, then it's possible for a raging vengeful lunatic to take on all of the mob in 6 months!
im a little confused by time travel in general, and this is probably gonna be confusing as fukk in what im trying to say, so maybe one of yall can help?

when old joe is killed by young joe, lives his thirty years in china, then is sent back to be killed by young joe, and so on and so forth, does he really die? because no matter what isnt there always a young joe back in 2044? or even isnt there a joe from even earlier in his life? like when hes a child? i mean i know its looper, where its just a wash, rinse, repeat kind of thing.
even us for example, our future selfs are living already in the future, then our past is living right now as well no? isnt that how time travel works? so when he kills old joe, wouldnt he just return back to being present day 2044? like his spirit or conscious is returned to joe from 2044? otherwise it seems like joe keeps killing his clone and shyt. hes never truly dead is what im getting at, because the ability to go back in time. its as if time never really moves, for every year of our lives there is us living there, whether past, present or future. this is probably a dumb question that has a basic answer.

the simplest answer i can tell you is you can NEVER change your past, but only can make choices in the present to change ur future.
that said, i wonder if it actually DID affect his past as well when the Old Joe killed Abe. Because, being that Abe is from the future, and was sent back to set up the looper organization. who would be there in the future to set it up and send abe cease to exist as well as the looper organization itself? and with the looper organization not existing and abe not existing to br brought back in time to find a young vengeful joe. whut could of really happened to that version? would he become the rainmaker and start the whole loop over anyway?
