Then you REALLY going to struggle through the near-hanging scene and Besty's one-take long bull whipping...
Yea that's what I'm afraid of.

I did the exact same thing. Turned it off right after that scene. Just got through the audiobook, figured I'd give it another shotMan I couldn't make it past the first beating dude took. I turned this off. It was brutal. Maybe I'll try again later.
Platt was a c00n.. and what he did to Patsy was worse than Fassbender and his cac wife. He could've put her out of her misery but was like :mpls: Then he just dipped on her at the end.
And the bytch with the two kids.. Platt aint even try to console her.
my boy was saying the same thing... why didn't he get into the anti-slavery movement before he got kidnapped?? he was well off, making money, in the north... even when he saw that one slave sneak up in the store.. he didn't even say shyt to him...Platt was a c00n.. and what he did to Patsy was worse than Fassbender and his cac wife. and when he told that lady to shut it up cause nobody wanted to hear it.. and she came back like "damn nikka you already forgot about your kids huh?
i understand beating patsy... many slaves had to do that or face torture.. and the girl still would have been beat... but yea he could have at least pulled off the assisted suicide for her... or came back and bought her out of slavery... or something
nikka just hugged her on the way out and looked at her like
same thing that other slave did to him
And THIS is why these fukking movies are made.
You know how far away the North was from those slave states? It would take him days to get down there.
South was like an entirely different country back then....
Solomon had a family to feed. He had to make a living. He had his own life. You can make the whole world's problems his problems.
That all sounds like a bunch of excuses, right?
It's a sacrifice, but if you're Solomon you GOT to make that sacrifice, right?
Well, in 1840 there were 2.5 million slaves in the American South. There are 30 million slaves in the world right now. Millions of them are in Africa.
It would have taken Solomon days to get to a slave state. You can get to Africa in less than 24 hours.
It might be hard to get shyt down. It's a LONG road ahead. But don't tell me it's any harder than ending slavery in the South was. And whatever resources and knowledge Solomon had, you know that you got more.
So don't bytch about what he did or didn't do before he was made a slave himself and got enlightened. Look at what YOU are doing right now, and apply your own lessons.
Man, all that shyt was hard as hell. Especially with the obvious parallelism they made with the way the other guy had just turned his back. But that's the power of fear...
The only silver lining I can give about the real Solomon is that "assisted suicide" scene with Patsy didn't actually happen. In the book, that nasty wife of the slaveowner is the one who asked Solomon to kill Patsy for her, and he refused.
Only thing I disagree with was him not caring about slaveryAnd THIS is why these fukking movies are made.

Can you explain what you mean by this? Why did the wife ask Solomon to do this?

I didn't ask him to go down there and free slaves. Or even go down there.
He knew slavery existed right? I'm sure there were all sorts of movements and speakers and organizations and leaders in the black community who did SOMETHING.
Now I didn't read the book. Maybe he was involved. But according to the movie he wasn't. And it didn't even seem like he gave a fukk
Now after he became a slave and was free. He suddenly gave a fukk and became the same person I'm referring too. What was stopping him from doing that prior? He just didn't care to

I have no idea why any black person in 2016 would actively go out and see yet another slave movie. My word
The hype is justified.
Brehs, I just saw 12 Years a Slave tonight. Words cannot explain the awesomeness of that movie. I just cannot
One of the most amazing films ever. I think the homie Steve McQueen is gonna get an Oscar. He the one
Chiwetel Ejiofor too
What a movie. Michael Fassbender
Best movie ive seen all year. This generation's Roots.
It should win a lot of Oscars. Not just for the acting and direction. The cinematography. The detail. I have not many words to say.
seeing as this was written in 2013 and not 2016, you are wrong there.I have no idea why any black person in 2016 would actively go out and see yet another slave movie.
Hell noseeing as this was written in 2013 and not 2016, you are wrong there.
MOre importantly, this tired argument about "i am tired of seeing slave movies." In the history of American cinema, there have been under 20 slave movies in total. I am not sure how and why we as a people are tired of something we see infrequently and this country has done a great job of making people forget. So i dont see how a BLACK person can make a statement like this but then get upset that this country does not give proper attention to slavery.
what in the fukk does any of this have to do with the African American experience in America?Hell no
fukk that.. We are the makers, the owners and the cream of the universe.. We were much more then slaves..
We are the orginal people of this planet. The fathers and mothers of civilization..
Slavery is just one small speck of our existence which is timeless..
We have no beginning or ending..
