This trend of giving guys 8-10+ year deals off one season will end up fukking over one of these teams in the future
It won't be the original team cause dude will be traded before then.

That is why plenty of teams are down for this 8 10 12 year deals cause they know they going to be trading the player after year 5 or 6 anyway so the rest of that is money they not paying

As a Mariners fan I'm not mad at all.

Gotta have someone to build around and the way the baseball players of the past left to go get their money it was always something to be fearful of. Now just need to get a few more bats to build around.
They need a second baseman for sure. Frazier AINT IT. A better DH would be great too although Santana is clutch sometimes.

Mariners got a steal. Same way Padres did with Tatis.

Why are these agents getting their clients to basically sign away their prime years with these 13+ year deals?

Soto and his agency is the only one that’s done it right
No look at Cody Belienger. MVP in 2019. To maybe the 8th best hitter on the team. If he got a 400 million deal the dodgers would feel sick

There's so few position players that maintain an elite level of play though. Think of the contract Cody Bellinger would have been offered if it was based off his rookie year. Or Kris Bryant. JRod's basically having the same season Randy Arozarena had last year for the Rays. Does anyone think he should be getting a deal worth up to $470 million?

shyt, the Tatis deal might already be a disaster. Crashed a motorcycle plus got caught juicing. The only guy from the last decade who's brought it every season is Trout.

Yelich looked like Barry Bonds a few years ago. Remember when Matt Kemp looked like a Triple Crown threat? The list goes on and on.
Yep, it's veryyyyyy risky

SUPER not true breh.

That era mariners team was REAL bad, and he was literally out there throwing perfect games and wanted to make the playoffs bad.
[both timestamped]
breh, look at this man

Dude is crushed he's not gonna make the playoffs.

in tears as he leaves the mound. He fukkin loved Seattle and desperately wanted to make the playoffs.

Felix fell off an early age. He didn’t put in the work like that

This is like marrying your girl after a month of dating but hey, good luck to the Mariners and hope J-Rod keeps it up.

Mariners fans have had a run in the past 30+ years as far as franchise cornerstones go.

Now Jrod.
i'm against these decade long contracts usually because they give it to a guy who's gonna turn 27-28 and their production is obviously gonna fall off

but given the history of Mariner's young prospects getting stolen and sold for parts, I totally understand trying to lock them down before they turn 22. but it's still a huge risk, especially for a small market team.

he won the cy young in his 4th season, threw a perfect game 7 years in, and was a perennial all-star, tf you talking about :mjlol:

His last great season was at 28 and by 31 he was having trash seasons. That’s early. I guess he got started early as well at 19 but he didn’t change his habits until it was too late.

What I’m talking about is well documented
