Which genre will overtake rap/hip-hop? Country music? Latin music? Roots/Afrobeats/dancehall/world music? And with the exception of Taylor Swift, no pop star is selling albums and selling shows with sellout crowds.
We’re in a transition period, we just haven’t found the new generation of star rappers yet, the 2020s was supposed to belong to the trio of Xxxtentacion/pop smoke/juice wrld, unfortunately they were all dead before the Covid-19 shutdown of march 2020. We will never know what they would do and how well they would do in this decade.
The trap sound and 808 & heartbreak drums are getting stale as well, there are no innovative/fresh/groundbreaking/brand new sounds, images and feels in this new decade so far.

Doja Cat just sold out an arena tour.
Olivia Rodrigo instantly sold out her tour and in some markets had enough presale registrations to sell 10x the amount of tickets available. Madonna is on a highly succesful tour. Billie Eilish and Dua Lipa will sell whatever tickets they put up for sale when they announce tours. There are also a number of K-Pop acts that can sell out whatever venue they want.
Just to be clear I think the “hip-hop is dead” crowd are completely stupid and just angry that the acts they like don’t sell but to say that pop acts aren’t selling tickets is just false.

And as someone said earlier in the thread, their fans support them different. As long as they get invited to events where they can show off how their look or keep their IG stories active, they'll support but the music comes secondary.

The problem with these chicks is that none of them are personable. If you compare other genres where female sell you'll find alot of them have that relatabilty factor. The code to crack would be to have a thot rapper version of MJB and SZA thats relatable and goes beyond my p*ssy bars

I think this is a good point but when you consider the fanbases its a bit different. There are exceptions but most rap nerds are men
A female rapper that isn't "poppin" likely has a mostly male audience, think Che Noir, Jean Grae which is fine. Underground artists don't "flop" really
Like others said, these new girls are basically influencers and have to move the needle
Besides Doja none of those are major tours and like I said to sign the type of deals they have and money they owe I doubt they are out the red and more than likely still owe.
I’m not saying they don’t make any money (actually I am) and don’t tour at all they just not headlining or even joint touring any major ones.

The checks stopped coming from Kaiser, I can tell by how candidly he's talking about Cardi situation.. shyt dried up because there's no new money coming in from her music. Plus he knows Nicki and the Barbs are keeping tabs on him.
As much as the Coli hates her, someone like Doja is special. She kinda has it all - looks, personality, skills (half decent singer, decent rapper) she can dance, entertain on a livestream and has a unique brand. She "gets it" musically and can make hits. A lot of dudes fukk with her
Labels need to take a risk on pushing another girl like that. Meg has some of that definitely, some nerd appeal and personality.... But in the last 2 years they pushed so many boring ass hoes with no skillset talking about the same bullshyt, looking exactly the same.
